LT4 knock module install??

kinda of a stupid question, but I bought the LT4 knock module, GM part #16214681, and I can't quite figure out where this goes? I pulled the lid of the ECU, and check a couple other places, but couldn't figure out where this goes...

Re: LT4 knock module install??

The LT4 KM goes in the front, not in the PCM itself. There are screws holding the lid to the KM and it just pops right out. HERE

If you have a 1993, you can't use it. The 1993 ECM has no replaceable knock module.

Didn't even pay attention to that. He should include specs in his sig But yeah a 93 you can't use an LT4 KM.

Re: LT4 knock module install??

So what do I about replacing the knock module then? From what i've read, the LT1 knock sensor falsely senses "knock" and retards the timing, costing HP, i'd like to avoid anything like that before doing a dynotune on the car.... (The car is a heads/cam/nitrous car with quite a bit else..)

Re: LT4 knock module install??

I believe when you tune the computer, you can desensitize the knock module.

Are u sure about that? What would even be the purpose of getting the LT4 KM then, it would be easier to just simply hook up a programmer to the ECU and desensitize the knock module if that is true... Another reason why I ask is because lloyd recommended getting one when I bought my cam and had him do some work to the heads (obviously, not knowing I had a 93; or that you can't use replace the knock module on a 93; either or), but I am just wondering why he would've recommended getting one when he knew that I was going to get the car dynotuned if you can just desensitize the LT1 knock module when you tune the car, making it pointless to get a different knock module on a car that is going to be tuned, if this is true? Can anyone verify the validity of this?

Reasong being because the LT4 knock module still picks up real knock and knows the diff between knock and just engine noise, desensitizing hte LT1 KM on the computer can cause it to not pick up real knock if it needed to, thus making it a little more unsafe for you car. But it really is your only alternative. I am having the same exact problem w/ my car and my 1.6 rockers. I have a 93 formula
