LT4 Hotcam & Porting Heads

Hey guys. I'm doing the LT4 Hotcam Kit sometime over the winter into spring and would like to know if anyone has ported their heads to go along with it. If so, to what specs did you do it to? I don't realy know much about head porting so please have paticents and try to show me the ropes! Thanks!

I think a valve job alone will help any car make some power.

Re: LT4 Hotcam & Porting Heads

Provided you can keep your sanding rolls OFF the valve seats and just do some basic casting flash removal & smoothing down the ports & valve guides, you'll be just fine. I have a friend that did just this and gained 20 rwhp on the dyno.

I accidentally tagged the valve seat w/ a sanding roll on one of my old motorcycle heads once. I got away with re-lapping the valve seats and it worked fine though. If it didn't work I would have known it right away once the engine fired over.

Re: LT4 Hotcam & Porting Heads

I ported my heads to go along with the HOTcam- it worked out nicely. I had to pull the heads anyway to replace a blown headgasket.

For getting started, refer to this article-
http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.shtm

On your first time, concentrate on being consistent with each port, and don't concentrate on removing a lot of material. You don't have to "hog" the ports out to get a good gain. With the HOTcam, my first attempt at homeporting and a 2800 stall, I picked up .82 in the 1/8 on a mail order tune.
