XE 224/230 537/544 with 1.6 pro mags

I have it on a daily driver/A4 stock converter (until Friday)/2:73 gears. It's been about a year now, and looking back... I wouldn't hesitate to get this cam again.

thanks guys

Also any #'s either Dyno or Track times on cars will the lt4 hot cam and stock heads/bottom end would be great as well
holy **** your car is fast. 13.6 with an a4, 2.73's and just a cai? geez

I have a HotCam Kit in my 97 Z, and so far, I have been very happy with it. I don't know much about Comp. Cams or XEs, but let me give you a little info on the HotCam others didn't mention. The HotCam was designed by GM to be used in street racing applications, as their performance catalog indicates. This means you will be giving up some low end, but you will gain a lot on the top end. I haven't driven or been around anyone with the CC305, but from what I have read, people seem to like it a lot. It is a little bigger than the HotCam as far as specs go, but I honestly don't think there can be a whole lot of difference between the CC305 and the HotCam. The CC306 is a different story though, but you said you won't do heads, so don't get that one. I went with the HotCam over the CC305 because it is made by GM, and the cam has been proven to make some decent power. With a good PCM tune, the HotCam will do wonders for you. Just my opinions.

The XE grind lift to duration ration is higher which gets the valves open and closing faster increasing flow without the negative effects that higher durations have during low rpm. The ramps are more agressive. Seems that this would make a better street cam.

the comp cams 305:
The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 276/290; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 220/230; and maximum lift with 1.6 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 544/544. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 114 degrees.

the 306 is:
The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 290/307; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 230/244; and maximum lift with 1.6 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 544/576. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 112 degrees.
NOTE: I adjusted the figures above so they all show 1.6 rockers... Now you can compare apples to apples...

The XEs are Comp Cams as well... I believe the 500 series cams on the catalog page above are the XE grinds.. Remember, these are "off the shelf" grinds. You always have the option of getting a custom grind.

One of my club members is running 12.7x on ET Streets with the cc304 and ported heads. So any of these cams should run even better.

The advantage to the getting better gears is that the car gets into the cam's power band faster, thereby accelerating the car faster. Of course this limits your top speed some, but you're car will never see the 248 MPH theoretical top speed based on gearing and stock engine redline. I'd say some 3.42s would be a NICE trade-off in top end speed for acceleration, plus they shouldn't hurt your mileage too much.

I'm going to 3.42s in place of my 2.73s.

IMO i beleive the hotcam needs a little more lift and more slightly more duration, especially for cars that plan for p&p heads in the future. I have the hotcam and would be makin a whole lot better numbers with a little bigger cam, but I am still pleased with my 381rwhp and 349rwtq. But the hotcam is definitly a daily driver cam. No compaints except I wish it had a little more lift/duration.
good luck

The Comp 305 is also a great daily driver. I went with it because it was as aggressive as I could get and still pass emissions here in Houston, TX. Also, got the Comp 1.6 RRs ( roller tip) to go with the cam which did NOT require me to clearance my valve covers.

I really like the Comp 305, it is awesome!!!

ok so being as I dont have emmissions and I think it will be awhile before LA does, the 305 with a set of 1.6 RRs sounds like what I need based on my mods listed below right? I have stock 3.42s and dont wanna waste the time/money to swap over to higher gears. I do wanna try to get a LSD unit and newer bearings in there being as I am peg leg and the rear has 140k on it. Is that 305 a good one for a 2400 stall? I will pull the heads to self port them later on. I have help from a VW mechanic on that part

I have the cc305 and get AWEFUL city mileage but awesome highway mileage. Prolly mostly on how I drive though. I can get 24+ on highway but sometimes dont get half that in the city.

what is the relation between cam aggressiveness and "lopeyness" (the sound of cammed engine). My car is a daily driver, too so I wouldn't want something crazy, but it sounds like the cc305 and lt4hc are roughly equal in performance, so which sounds better, in everyones opinion?

I have got the Hotcam, and the idle is just lopey enough to show that it is not a stock cam. I like it. I don't know about the CC305 though, but my guess is they are about the same as far as engine lope goes.

My cc 305 is pretty lopey. You can definitely hear it and everyone knows it's an aftermarket cam. It's a daily driver too and I dont have any probs-even in the snow.
