LT4 hotcam kit installed by dealer?

Anybody had the LT4 hotcam kit installed by a GM dealer? Approximate labor times? Price? Not sure that's something I want to tackle by myself. Plus... would like to have dealer warranty.

That's not necessarily true...it varies by dealer. I had my 3.42 gears installed at a GM dealer. I supplied the parts and their labor was right in line, and in some cases lower than a few driveline shops I checked. There are a few rare ones out there that'll do performance minded stuff for a reasonable price. Heck, they even convinced GM to cover 1/2 of my trans replacement WITH the supercharger on the car, since I had complained about it previous to the s/c going on. Unfortunately, they sold the GM portion of the dealership... Nowadays I prefer to do all my own work though anyways.

Not sure the dealer is gonna give you a warranty on a performance part installation, they'll cover the initial installation I'm sure, but dunno about anything beyond that once you drive off the lot happy.

It's going to cost around $1000 to have a dealer do it.
Best to do it your self and put that install money towards more mods.

Installing a rearend is one thing and a cam is another, but if you can find a dealer that will do it in 15 hours or less, go for it.

I only say this because it might be easier to go after a dealer if they screw it up.

Putting a cam in an F-Body Lt1 can be disasterous if they knick the bearings or get dirt or other crap in there. I would think that it would be better to go with someone who does it all the time and has a good rep.JMHO

I don't know what the rep of your dealer's service is, you may want to look (closely) into this. I wouldn't trust the local dealers here to install a valve stem cap much less something under the hood.

I think I might call to get an estimate. GMpartsdirect lowered the price of the hotcam kit to about $450. Seems to good to pass up. Although, I guess I should also pony up for the LT4 timing chain kit as well.

I was told by a dealer here in California that unless It comes stock on the car, they wont touch it. But in turn, they did quote me a price to install my 3:73's Maybe it just has to do with emission producing parts...

Talk to mechanics that work at the dealership. They might do the job themselves in their own time. I got a mechanic from a Toyota dealership to put in my headers for a real good price. He has a Camaro as well, and had put in shorties before.

I know it sounds funny, but I'd be scared to let the dealer do something that involved to my car. Just get to a point where you can drive something else for about a week, and do the cam install. Heckuva lot easier than doing heads AND a cam.

Just do the install with help from some buddies. My local chevy dealership is about as good as the highschool auto shop. When I was going through a full time police academy I had no time to work on my Camaro that refused to start one day. Since my academy was over 100 miles away from home I could only be home on the weekends and I was swamped with home work. I let the local Cheverolet dealer come and tow my car and take it to the shop. ( I hate letting other people work on my beloved Z) Well...1 week later they could not figure it out...2 weeks later they call me and tell me that my fuel pump was probably bad and it would cost me $300 for the pump and at least $200 for the labor! I said "yeah right, don't touch my car I'm comming to get it!" I thought about it and since my car had been sitting in the garage for about 3 months I decided to check the easy items first, plugs and wires. Armed with a new set of NGK's and my handy 5/8 header socket w/ ratchet, I changed the plugs right there in the parking lot of the service dept. My car started up on the first try and ran perfect. ASE Certified my ***. $500 for a fuel pump I didn't even need, which they were certian it was. Needless to say, this dealership sucked. Go ask your local GM service dept if he even know what an LT1 is? Chances are that he wont. None of the Mechanics at my trusty dealership did.

I had mine installed by the dealer. They were doing warranty work on the motor at the time, and they wanted only $400 to setup the hotcam kit if I brought them one. So I let them do it seing that it was cheap, and that it would also be on warranty since it was Chevy parts installed by a Chevy dealership.

Seemed like a great deal. Many moons later I dyno the car. The best my A4/hotcam kit/K&N/shorty headers/catback/LT4KM setup can do with LT1Edit tuning is 274rwhp. Now I'm wondering if they messed something up while installing the cam
