LT4 Hotcam install ?'s
LT4 Hotcam install ?'s
Hi all, I'm sure this may have been covered many times before but I'm too lazy tonight to search (well that and I only have a few minutes). I plan on installing an LT4 Hotcam into my 94 Z28 (63K miles). I have a set of Scorpion 1.6 Roller Rockers. I know I need to change the valve springs, what about the push rods? Will the rockers need guideplates?
Regarding the timing set, since the car is low mileage should I just do the chain or all of it?
Thanks!
Steve

Re: LT4 Hotcam install ?'s
I've never heard of anyone install Scorpion rockers onto a LT1, so make sure they're correct and not for an LS1. You'll also have to check them to see if they're SA (self-aligning) or NSA (non-self-aligning). If they're SA, you don't need guideplates and vice versa. Make sure you get only GM guideplates as these are the only ones that give the correct geometry for the LT1 heads. As far as pushrods, most will say you won't need to change them since that's a very small cam. I say do it while you're in there as they're not that expensive, just get some hardened comp 7.2". I think it was shoebox that said that if you're going to change the chain, you should also change the gears as they are made to work as a set. I went with a cloyes double roller since I also installed an electric waterpump. Might as well replace it while you're in there is what I always say.
Re: LT4 Hotcam install ?'s
7.2" is the stock length. Since all he is changing is the cam, wouldn't those be the right size he needs???
This is the list I am going to get when I do the hotcam.
Pushrods
Lifters (car has 106,000 miles)
LT4 Kit
Coyles Double Roller (have electric WP)
