Lt4 hotcam or cc305 cam????

Ok.. for spring break i want to put a cam on my Z..... I have most of all the basic bolt-ons and its a M6... The car also is a daily driver... and on the weekends i have to travel a quit of bit....Also i dont want to mess withe the head or any other componets of the engine... I was gonna go with a cc304 but it is too small and not worth the waste of money... I heard a lot of pros and cons with the lt4 cam and the cc305 cam... Can you guy help... witch will be better and give a better boost... thanx

I'm sure that you will hear this from the Hotcam guys, but I love my 305, only going with a custom grind with my stroker.

Re: Lt4 hotcam or cc305 cam????

Besides having to send your heads out and not having to ship anything out with a cam install, having your heads ported (unless your buying new ones) are 10 times easier to do than the cam. Swapping cams is MUCH more involved than a pair of heads and gaskets. If you will do heads down the road, then do the cc305. However, if you just want to cam your car and make moderate power/tq when compared to the other less mild cams out there, just do the hot cam kit, as it comes with everything you need and is a good inbetween cam setup, springs are a little on the weak side though. My opinion, wait until you have the time/money to do both. While your in there and have it torn apart, you might as well do the full h/c swap. But, if you REALLY dont want to do the heads, I say go for the cc305, some pro mag RR's and PR's, do it well. FWIW

I'm pretty new to this stuff, but I'll take a stab at it. 25-50 Rear Wheel HP?

I would steer away from the hotcam. The ramp rates are too slow and it has alot of overlap for such a small cam. Call Comp Cams or Bret they will hook you up with a driveable cam.

Ive ran the hotcam for over a year, had it into the high 7's with a little n20 on stock heads. Id say that with 1.6rr's its about on par with a 305.

i made 344 356 with the hot cam and shorty headers.
my buddy made about the same with his 305 cam
both cars had the exact same driveability...

here is my take... go with the hot cam if your going to do the hot cam kit. really good bang for the buck.
if you already have roller rockers, then go with a different cam and springs.

now if you want to get the most out of it, and have a little more money to spend, go with a custom cam from brett, or futural.

I had it done, but did a lot of the engine removal/installation myself. When I lived in Robinson, I had some buddies w/ a 4x4 shop and did a lot of the work there.

Was this on the 355 or before you bored it out?
