LT4 head gaskets

OK Im gonna need some new gaskets once I pull of my heads for porting and polishing...(94 LT1) I have heard that getting some LT4 head gaskets will lower/raise your compression...my question is it true and is it worth it??

Thanks
james

Re: LT4 head gaskets

LT4 engines used the same gaskets as lt1 engines.

Impala gaskets are thinner, and raise compression, NOT lt4 gaskets

Well either way, would it make a difference and would it be worth doing? And on Thunderracing.com, they say that LT1 gasket is .050 and LT4 is .043? So thats what I was basing my numbers off of...would it be worth it?

Stock LT1 gaskets are .049", Felpro are .039" and the Imp gaskets are .029".

You are correct, there is an LT4 head gasket. GM #12551488, and it is .043. Since going from a stock .049 to an Impy .029 gives you about a half a point in compression, going to the .043 won't raise it much.

well half a point meaning 10.4 to now a 10.5 or what? How much can you take of with thinnier gaskets and or heads before have to change push rods?

10.4 to 10.9

I'm still running stock length rods, but i know they're not ideal. I'll probably go to 7.150" rods soon
