LT4 head gasket boost compression?
LT4 head gasket boost compression?
I dont remember where i read it but it said that the LT4 head gasket boosts compression and i was wondering if someone knew if this was true and could explain why. thanks
The impala head gasket increases the compression ratio. I don't think there is a head gasket specific to the LT4 engine. Its really the same block as the LT1.
Compression ratio is determined by how much the piston squeezes the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber. If you use a thinner than stock head gasket, you have less space to compress the air. Since the piston still moves the same amount, the fuel/air will be compressed more.
Hope this helps!

The LT4 head gasket would raise compression but it would be very little and not worth the effort. The impala ss gasket would raise it about .4.The LT1 gasket is .050"thick,the LT4 gasket is .043" thick and the impala gasket is .028".As you can see the impala gasket would be the best one to use if you want to raise your compression.
