LT4 cam kit...not your regular questions

Since I blew a head gasket, and i'm having everything apart, I was thinking of doing the LT4 cam kit. I know its not the best or fastest, but i'm just looking for an improvement. I'm on a very tight budget, which is why I say LT4 kit since its ~470 from certain places. My main question is what else do I need? Is the LT4 heavy duty timing set necessary? Can I just swap the cam, springs, and rockers, or should I do other stuff at the same time? If it gets too expensive i'm not going to do the cam swap, but i wouldn't mind since i'm pulling the heads anyways. Thanks for the input!

The LT4 HD timing chain isn't necessary, just get a stock replacment.

I'm not sure what the HOT CAM kit comes with but, you might want to get a new set of hardened pushrods.

Do a search on the name Shoebox and check out his site. He's got a very well done cam swap guide. He added all the tools, gaskets, fluids, etc. that were used.

Of course its not a must to change the chain but for others like me it is. I'm assuming you have quite a few miles on the motor. The EX chain kit is like 190. If you just replace the chain like mentioned you will still need to get the chain gears for proper wear.

O yeah....the Hotcam is an awesome cam in my opinion for a daily driver anyways.

Do I need to change the lifters and/or the pushrods? I'm at the extreme edge of my budget for this.

Does anyone have the p/n for a stock replacement timing set? Is that enough for the hot cam kit? Also, I was planning on chaning the valve stem seals. Is this a good idea?

Thanks

Changing lifters and push rods is entirely your call.

No idea on the stock timing set, but if you call Jason Cromer and tell him what you need, he'll hook you up. FYI he's the parts guy at Vandevere Olds in Florida. Sells stuff wholesale + shipping.

Definitely change the seals, they're cheap. Don't skimp there.
