My mechanic laid the wire on the header.......so i don't trust mechanics.....

I run the same style you are refering too. I have coated headers, which helps, and also use the metal boot sheild that comes stock on the wire, it really works. Also put those plug boots on there.........or buy the wires from accel that you can lay right on the header

They flow good though

cut to fit wires/wire looms. of course wires will burn if you lay them on the headers.

Wow.. got a lot more responses than I thought i'd get.. anyway..
The headers are NOT coated.
And i'm not an Idiot, the wires are not touching the headers at all.. I know how to route the wires.. The one boot is just about a half inch away from the one pipe. After taking off the original MSD wires i had on there, I was able to brush off the name brand from the rubber.. They are basically slow cooking the back of the boot.
Thank you guys who didn't respond all sarcastic
If i had to do it again, i'd def spend the extra for coated.. but for now i just have to deal with it.

I have coated ones so i don't have a problem with mine. You could try removing just the drivers side header and denting the primary some to gain some clearance until you get them coated.

Coated SLP shorties and stock wires. No problems here. Granted the design was different for the 96 and 97 cars. I've had mine for over 2 years now.

I just got off the phone with a guy from a local corvette performance shop.. His advice from 2 of his mechanics (he said the one guy drives a firehawk and all they do is work on cars like this) was to "scrap the SLP headers, they'll do nothin but burn your wires" lol The way they were designed, they were just bent too close to the plugs.. You guys that have these headers on your 94 or 95 LT1 and AREN'T having this problem must have lucked out somehow... He recommended Hooker LTs. I think I may make a change sometime soon...
Thanks for all the responses!

It's your combination...coated headers and Accel Extreme 9000 wires would be a much better bet.

Re: LT1 w/ SLP headers? READ NOW!!!

The solution to SLP headers is MSD wires (lower profile boots) with a nylon cloth heat sheild (sock) on the #5 cylinder. That is what I did back in the day and never had a problem. I picked up 5mph in the 1/4 with SLP headers alone on a bone stock motor. I think the headers really work in the power dept, but SLP needs some work on their design and fabrication end too (had a weld crack on mine Of course they fed me the same line when I called: "never heard of that happening before". The headers came with a warranty, but they said they wouldnt warranty them. Needless to say, I stopped buying from them.
