LT1 vs TPI

Ok, what would be faster? a stock 4th gen Z28 LT1 with 4L60E or a 3rd gen IROC-Z with 5spd and 4.11 rear end?

Re: LT1 vs TPI

might be close at the start, but the LT1 will pull away from 30-40 mph onwards.

Re: LT1 vs TPI

well considering i have had both and my bone stock 96z28 w/slp headers and autozone clutch,3.42s and c5 18"launching at 3200 ran 13.9@99 w/2.10 60' at 2800' which was fine but my 88 iroc was faster,it had stock 5.7,pulley's,hooker shorty headers,no cats,t-5 w/c tranny,3.27aussi 9 bolt,17x9.5 eagles w/285/40/17,cut out air boxes launching at 2800 ran 13.7@104 w/1.90 60'(stock un- modded tpi)same altitude.the best thing for a virgin tpi motor is a STICK
96 z/28 13.5 @sea level
88 iroc-z 13.2 @sea level

Re: LT1 vs TPI

Haha.. I appreciate the responses! But hey, the reason I put the question up is because I recently just bought my LT1 and this punk kid in town thinks his Iroc is the fastest and is intent on proving it with anyone he can. Its almost like he's trying to make up for a deficiency of a sort if you catch my drift. His brother has a 97 LT1 and from what I hear he wont give up trying to beat it. His main point for bragging is that he bought the car with a modded rear end. Whoever had it before him put 4.11 gears in. Ive showed him im not afraid to race my car.. infact ive found myself behind him on the street on two different occassions and came up behind him and punched it around him. Needless to say he did TRY to catch up with me but only got up to me when I was well infront of him slowing down. The kids got a pretty big ego and if I race him seriously, he'll want a rematch until he wins and all in all, i dont want to give him the satisfaction of me giving in to his petty trash talk about my car because I refuse to go up against him so he can feel like he's a big man.

If he knows what to do, the L98 is in no way defficient to an LT1. Plain and simple. I wish I didn't sell my 91GTA.

That being said this post shouldn't be in the LT1 forum imo. Kinda like going to a mustang site and saying which is better camaro or mustang? It's like throwing chum in the water.

Re: LT1 vs TPI

Youre right, it doesnt.. ANYMORE. The question started out as being one about the LT1's and TPI's since the LT1's produced 275 at the flywheel throughout the 93-97 run, and the TPI's varied from 220-245 (245 being the IROC) and how they would match up given their differences in vehicle weights and drivetrain. Aside from that I couldnt find a forum that suited the question. Hopefully a moderator can help me out with that and possibly move the thread over to a section more suitable now.

Oh, and though it doesnt matter, everyone knows the camaro is far superior. to a mustang. My aunt has an 01 GT and they only produce 260 at the fly? whats that?! Ford kinda underpowered their muscle car given that for the same year, the camaro produced up to a full 75hp more than the mustang. (during the LT1 gens)

Nope, the best n/a LT1's are quicker than the best L98 cars but what I said in my post still stands. Actually L98 cars are easier to make faster n/a than LT1 cars and still pass a sniff test imho.

Re: LT1 vs TPI

It was my understanding that the L98 could only be mated with the 700R4. So if this guy has a 5 speed it had to have been swapped in. Might wanna double check, it could just be the 305 LB9 which was rated at either 205 or 230hp. Either way, you shouldn't have a problem with him unless he has some serious mods. Don't expect a slaughter though!

Re: LT1 vs TPI

I'll have to assume it's a aftermarket 5spd because I thought all the TPI 350s were coupled to automatics...and only the 305s had the 5spd option...

edit:above post said this too...so it must be true right
