Question LT1 vs LT4 starter

Whats the advantage of the LT4 starter over the LT1. I just got my new LT4 starter and its 1 pound heavier than the stock one. Do they make more torque or is it because the solenoid had been moved toward the block and away from the headers.

I'm starting to have problems with my stock LT1 starter, could the headers be messing it up?
how much was the LT4 starter and how do you like it, or have you installed it yet?

My LT4 starter was 9 pounds, and the LT1 was 10.5 pounds[ on a bathroom scale with me on it both times]
The LT4 is a reduction gear starter, also, it's available NEW [LT1 can only be gotten remanufactured [your core etc]
Cheaper also..
I got mine from Jason Cromer last week for 159.95 SHIPPED...[149.95 + 10.00 shipping]
I like it.. it turns it over faster, and has a different'sound'
looked like a pretty nice unit [made by Nippondenso in Japan tho]
Bolts right in..
Solenoids are not servicable on either starter..

My stock started was 8lbs, the LT4 starter is 9lbs, so it is heavier but not by much. I bolted it up and noticed a big difference in header clearance because to solenoid is towards the block now. Although not a big deal to me its still a plus.

******

See this thread:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ht=LT4+starter

It has a discussion [and pics] about there being several types of stock LT1 starters.. some the solenoid comes off, some it doesnt[there are pics of my LT1 starter there on the 2nd page]
The LT4 starter I have in the car NOW the solenoid doesn't come off either..
I will concede that SOME may be removeable on either starter..
But definitely not ALL
