LT1 VS. LS1 in 94 Camaro

I'm looking at dropping either a Lt1 or Ls1 in a 94' V6 Camaro. I understand if I am to drop in a LS1 into that year that there are about $1000+ worth of additional parts needed for the swap. But with the Lt1 I believe there are only a few adds and ends. Is it worth the $3k+ for the Ls1 over the LT1? Both will be mated with a 6 spd. This will be a daily driver so I'm not looking to go all out with this vehicle except for BPU. Thanks

Naw, i'd save the extra cash you would get from using the LT1, and just put it towards mods. Sure the LS1 will be faster stock for stock. But once modding begins, it's anyones game.

Well, most LT1's that i spot on ebay usually have well over 90k, wouldn't that be calling for a rebuild before dropping it in? Anyone know what that would run? What do LT1's run in the quarter stock? The ls1's? Thanks

At 90K miles you're just beginning to break it in. My car has 177,000 miles and not one rebuilt or new gaskets. Same with the 350 in our big chevy van, it has 126,000 and not once seen a tune up, and both run as good as the day they were bought from the factory. And for a rebuild, i know they aren't cheap but i couldn't give you an exact price. But no, 90k miles is not necessarily a cause for a rebuild, that can just be the break in point for some engines.

But when buying from such places such as Ebay or Junk Yards, how are you to know their condition before purchasing? Sorry, I'm just getting into domestics and have never done motor swaps.

Turning wrenches can be fun, but For the time and money it will take to do the swap I would also concider just getting a LT1 Z28. I was able to get mine (pictures link in sig) for $5300 in mostly stock condition @ 84k miles in August "04.

Somthing to think about maybe. Working on these cars for me has never been as fun as driving them

What is your age and insurance 6 mo. rate? That's my only drawback.

Insurance. Good point!

Well... I am 24. No tickets, No accidents (or claims), student discount for grades, and I am "primary operator" of an 87 Nissan Truck with 260k+ which I have not driven in years. So insurance is low. I put one of my parents name on the title for the Z28 when I bought it for this savings.

I too will be putting my parents name on any vehicle that I am to purchase. But seeing the 19yr old above having that low of insurance in his name I assume, I should be set. Checked auto trader.com and it only brought up one Z28 in my area with 78k and it was $7800. I need a 6spd, is that usually how much they run?

Im 17 and Im helping my father pay for the insurance. We have allstate and I think we pay $430 for 2 cars. Thats Including my Z28 over a 6 month period. But I do have all those discounts and stuff. I guess its not bad.

Re: LT1 VS. LS1 in 94 Camaro

I didnt know much about these cars when I first got mine. But realized later that with the options the car had, I got a decent deal.

Good deals can be found/had better than bluebook prices with a little time and perhaps some luck.

It turned out for me that a friend of mine and his wife were having a child. The fact that Fbodies are not the most practical for raising children and the sellers hatred for local stealerships helped me out.

Car has been paid off for a few months. However, I will be keeping full coverage insurance.
