LT1 Tuneup

I just bought a 95 Z28 and was wondering what I can do to tune it up. I know spark plugs are one of the obvious things but I am wondering what else. It has a K&N filter and the fuel filter was just changed. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: LT1 Tuneup

When I buy a used car, I change all the fluids, as you do not know when and if they are even done, or if they used the cheapest fluid they could find. Next I replace the fuel filter, oil filter, and air filter. If it is a auto car, I replace the tranny filter when doing the fluid change. Then I will go over the car, and see what else it needs, but this should get you going for now.

There was a thread on this like last week. Try to search for it.

Sorry, I am new to this board......

I got the car from my best friend so I know the past 3 year's history on the car.

The 02 sensors were replaced last fall. The water pump, fuel pump and fuel filter have been changed last year as well. I have already changed the oil and filter, the car has a K&N that was installed maybe 6 months ago. Next on the list is the tranny fluid and filter along with the differential fluid.

Plugs and wires will need to be changed as well. I wasn't sure how the plug wires were on the LT1 with Opti-Spark.

The plugs and wires will be an adventure. It will take some time and patience.

That is what I have been told!! What kind of ends are on the wires on the distributor end. HEI or Points style because I will probable make me a set of wires. I have had good luck with the Moroso wires on my Firebird.

What do y'all recommend for plugs and wires? The car is stock except for K&N filter.

Most people will agree that you should go with Taylor OVC wires (Over Valve Cover). That will make things a helluva lot easier. Do a search about the plugs... I'm not sure what everyone prefers.

Re: LT1 Tuneup

plugs can be grouped under the same debate 'which oil is better'...peopole use: autolites, bosch, ngk, acdelco, denso, champion, etc etc....its just best to pick a plug youve had good experiences with
im using bosch plats, the regular 2 buck ones

Re: LT1 Tuneup

I have the Accel Extreme 9000 plug wire and they work really well. As long as you route them carefully you don't have to go with the OTVC kit, but it is a matter of preference. I have never seen the OTVC kit, but when I routed mine it took two people and 3-4 hours, and a lot of double and triple-checking from all different angles. I've had them on for over 3.5 months and no problems whatsoever.

I love my OTVC, not quite sure how well they would work on stock manifolds, since they come up off of the heads. Looks like they would get in the way.

Re: LT1 Tuneup

Good point. I have headers... so I have no idea how well they'll work with stock manifolds.

Re: LT1 Tuneup

I just took my OVC's off and installed stock type wires, burned up a few Taylors on the manifolds after a while... I have stock manifolds still... I might try the OVC's again after I get my longtubes on. I went with AC Delco wires and plugs.
