lt1 ticking noise

My lt1 is making a ticking sound, i think its coming from the top of the engine. Could it be a loose rocker arm?

Sure could. Easiest thing to do would be to pop off a valve cover and take a gander.

Re: lt1 ticking noise

Thanks! I just took a look at the rockers one of them is loose. Now that i got the valve covers off lol should i get some 1.6 rr. Its a cc503 cam with 1.52 rockers. Would the change make a noticable difference.

Depends on the cam, but if you change it out for something more aggressive and grab those 1.6rr, yeah, you'll notice a difference. :P

I have to ask....How did you know it was a loose rocker? Before someone goes into a long typing rant.. I know what a loose rocker is and how to check I just want to know if the OP knows....

Re: lt1 ticking noise

It doesn't depend on the cam..every cam benefits from the different ratio as it increases duration and lift, just like a bigger cam would. You have to be certain your springs can handle the extra lift, though, before just popping them on...

Its a 383 with a cc503 with ported stock heads. And my builder used 1.52rr, i just didn't know if i would benefit from 1.6rr.

Re: lt1 ticking noise

If your springs can handle it, adding 1.6s could be worth 5-10HP.

Be sure to check for adequate spring clearance. you do it with a feeler gauge between the coils. You're looking for a total of at least .060" By total I mean the sum of all the clearances. 0.060" is conservative, I ws running 0.030" in a previous iteration without issues...
