LT1 Throttle Body question

Hey there everyone, I just wanted to know if it is possible
to remove my stock throttle body ( 97' LT1 SS ), and have
a machinist make it larger, ie: 52mm instead of the stock
48mm. So I don't have to spend 4 or 500 dollars on an aftermarket one. And how complicated is it to do?...
Cheers...

Yeah, it can be done. It's about as complicated as having the throttle bores opened up and making new throttle plates. There's a guy on the board who does this. I don't remember who, maybe someone else can help a failing memory.

Thottle body question

Hey thanks Chris,
So I guess my friend can't just bring
it to work & zip off 4mm on a lathe or milling machine for
me & call it a day, sounds like there is more to it.
I priced out a Holley 52mm here in Canada & they
want over $500 can. for it.

Well, he could, but then he has to machine bigger throttle plates to fill up the bigger holes.

Well I guess I will have to take off the throttle body this
weekend & see what I am in for, I have a full machine
shop @ work to use if I go this route. I'm trying to get all
mods done before spring.

Hey zerosheaven, from what I have been told, I should'nt
have to because the intake is already@ 52mm. If I wanted
to go larger then yes.
Cheers...

Yeah, the throttle bores on the intake manifold are 52mm. You only have to open them up if you want to go to a 58 mm or a monoblade TB.

If you decide to buy one look at Summitracings 52mm BBK throttle body. They are the cheapest I found. I got one recently and am quite pleased.

Thunder racing sells ported stock ones for $225 + core charge. That's going to be the best deal. On a mostly stock car, a 52mm TB doesn't do very much anyway so I'd go with that one. I did, and it works fine.

The board member's website is www.halbertperformance.com. They ask $150 + core for an overbored 52mm. They are shipping me the new unit, and letting me ship back the core when the install is done (my car is a daily driver). Shannon and/or Heather have been a real pleasure to work with

Thanx everyone for the info. I am going to check out the
web sites mentioned in your reply's & see if I can find what
I am looking for. I also wanted a 52mm TB so that I wouldn't
have to bore out my intake manifold.
Cheers,
Steven...

I paid a local machine shop to bore mine out to 52mm($100) and to install the 52mm blades I bought from AZ speed & marine($25).

Total cost-$125
