Question LT1 Swapped into S10...what HEADERS can you use?

Hey there,

I'm posting to help out a buddy of mine. He just bought a 93 LT1 complete with harness and ECU. He's swapping it into his (1993 i think) S10 pickup. The "transplant" kit he was going to purchase is advertised for SBC with non-angle plug heads. He's concerned the block hugger headers will not work with the LT1 heads.

The goal is to be able to swap in the LT1 without notching the frame on the truck. So far everyone he's talked to who has completed this swap, used stock manifolds, and notched the frame. The "transplant" kit he was going to get, says no notching required with the block hugging headers for non-angle plug heads. I did a quick search and couldn't find any block huggers for LT1's (granted first time I've ever looked into this sorta thing), I know there has to be something out there.

Anybody with experience in regards to this sorta swap? Any idea what headers may clear those pesky frame-rails?

Thanks ahead of time,
Andrew

there are some members here with LT1 S series trucks who might have better info but it is my understanding that you can use the same headers in most standard SBC swap kits. looking at these pics I can't see why they wouldn't fit...

Ahh ok, thanks John. Well, initially that was my guess.

It wasn't obvious to me why they "wouldn't" work. In my backwards thinking, I can see why perhaps some LT1 headers would not work on non-angle plug heads due to the spark plug/wire/clearance not clearing the headers. But with LT1 plugs facing away from the primary's it seems like any sbc header should fit .

Can someone more knowledgeable in this area verify this?

I'll tell my buddy to contact the kit manufacturer again, and ask them specifically. (over the weekend, we could not get a hold of them).

I can't tell you what headers will work, but I will warn you away from putting straight-angle headers on angle-plug heads. My brother's MC has angle plug heads and straight plug headers. Not only did we spend hours trying to dent/move the primaries, we also had to go with accel header plugs just to get the boots on without touching the primaries. It is a royal PITA to do plugs in his car now. If you're going to buy new headers, make sure you get ones that will fit your heads.

I may be wrong but holley i think makes a header that is made for the swap....a friend of mine put a 350 out of a 95 chevy pickup in a 90 s10 and got the headers direct from the main holley manufacture in Aberdeen MS .....about 30mins from where i live and his worked great.
