LT1 STuddering after sharp turns!
LT1 STuddering after sharp turns!
So I made a sharp turn to day and went to go accelerate and It didn't go anywhere, I look at my TACH and it's at zero. I hit the gas about 3 seconds later and it pops back up and drives fine. Did it again coming home and it did the same thing, went down to zero while still running and then slowly came back up. NOW I went down my street did a quick jerk of the wheel and did it. This time it kept stumbling and stumbling. Sounded like it was running on one cylinder. I drove it three blocks back to the front of my house. When I gave it gas it woudn't do anything except try to die. So I idled it home basically just drawing out a little bit.
I let it cool, came back out, it started up and ran fine.
NOw in the process of writing this I had a neighbor scan it for me. This is what I got.
P1361
P0430- Catalyst Below Threshold (bank 2)
HELP!
I'm thinking O2 sensor but that doesn't explain why it craps out only on sharp turns!

Re: LT1 STuddering after sharp turns!
Don't think fuel problem would cause the tach to drop out. Seems to me the engine would kind of struggle and the tach would show that.
I would think if it is a fuel related problem it would be from the tank area around the pump line above the pump. If say the hose had a hole in it, as the car turns and allows air over the damaged area of the hose, it could suck air. But, if that were the case, when the fuel level got low enough, the engine wold not run at all. Is this actually the case? When the fuel level gets low but not empty, it won't run? You didn't mention it so we assume not.
Seems more of an electrical issue. See if your battery is jumping around like so many others with a broken hold down bracket. If the battery tips it can momentarily short the postive terminal to something grounded behind it. This could also cause exactly what you are seeing.

So why does the tach drop to zero?
Re: LT1 STuddering after sharp turns!
let me elaborate. Fuel tank was three forths full. Car will run fine til you make a sharp turn.
The tach will drop to zero
It struggles. You hit the gas. It goes to about 200 rpm and it sounds like it
is running on one cylinder. It will run like crap and then sometimes it will level out. Some times it will not. I guess the next thing is to check my fuel pressure but its a new pump and sending unit. Pretty sure its the o2s cuz its throwing a code. Ill update more later. keep the ideas coming

It may or may not be the root problem, but it's certainly not helping you any.
I had a similar problem with my 92 after I got the trans rebuilt and motor mounts replaced.
I never did find out what caused it, I just got used to downshiftnig before I took tight corners.

Re: LT1 STuddering after sharp turns!
Since your getting a P1361 error code I would start by checking the wiring to the ICM. Maybe you have a short that only occurs when the wire touches ground while you are making a turn.
