LT1 Seems to be Running Hot

I have a 97 Camaro Z28. I noticed that in stop and go traffic my temp. rises ABOVE the 210 middle mark. Actually closer to the red zone, but never in it.

I recently put a 180* thermostat in it, and also checked/added coolant.

What could be causing this? How can I fix it?

Maybe air in your system? Also make sure your fans are kicking on. I know the reason mine was overheating is from fans not kicking on.

My fans don't turn on until my my temp reaches the orange (red on other years) mark. So I don't think that's his problem.

The stock thermostat is 180* so I don't think that would cause it.

Sounds normal and hopefully you put in the correct, long LT1 specific thermostat.

Sounds like you low speed fan is not working....

TO the Orginal Poster:

Try getting some Water Wetter from the parts store, when i had my car stock that stuff really did a good job on keeping the car cooler.
You also might want to get the coputer programmed to turn the fans on earlier.

I don't know, from what you are describing, it sounds like a normal operating temperature.

Your cooling fans don't activate until 226*/237*.
