Lt1-SBC timing chain

I've heard that you can remove the wp. drive, and weld the timing cover and go from a lt1 timing chain to a SBC timing chain. Does anyone know if this is true, and do you have pics?

Plug the hole in the timing cover (welding it would certainly accomplish the same thing), remove the WP drive gear, and use a timing chain set from a pre-LT1 roller cam small block application. You will probably need to grind additional clearance on the inside of the cover in a few places around the circumference of the cam sprocket. You won't know exactly where or how much until you mock up the chain and cover. It's not a big deal unless you ignore the fact that the chain is rubbing against the back of the cover.

You can use one if you set it up right. As mentioned the cover usually needs to be clearanced to avoid rubbing the chain/sprockers. I had my cover welded shut but I have heard of others just using a freeze plug. obvously you need an electric wp as well.

Thanks guys, One of the guy over on FAST which is my local board pulled through as well and told me, but didn't say anything about clearancing the cover (which is no big deal for me) I will try and remember to do a write up on it and post it up on here and FAST. I appreciate your knowledge. Thanks.

I used a double roller RollerMaster chain from Scoggin Dickey just fine, also used a freeze plug and some hylomar on the hole. Art
