LT1 Rebuild Kit
Gonna rebuild the LT1 in my 1994 Trans Am, found a Sealed Power Rebuild Kit at Summit for $450, kit with hyperteutic pistons. Is this a good price? I haven't seen a kit anywhere else, so I'll probably order it tomorrow. Anybody who's rebuilt there engine: How long did it take. Also want to put another cam in it, it is a daily driver car, just want to go with slightly bigger cam, any suggestions please help.
First of all, I think you are being slightly deceived about the nature of this product in thinking it is an "LT1 Rebuild kit" It is simply a set of Pistons with all the rings and necessary gaskets. Now this will be an effective rebuild if u are suffering from compression loss or bad gaskets, but it is a very basic rebuild.
Second, that package is designed to be put in an engine that has been BORED .030 OVER. This means you will have to have block work done. The motor will need to be pulled and sent to a machine shop. During this process, it would be smart to have the crank journals inspected, and have the crank and rods balanced as well.
Keep in mind, this is not some simple rebuild kit. I have helped rebuild tons of engines and there is a lot more work involved than u think. If i were to discuss an entire rebuild engine it would probably take a good 100 pages. I would not attempt a project like this unless u know EXACTLY what u are getting into.
As for a Cam, I would recommend a LT4 Hot Cam kit for ur application. It is a more aggressive cam that runs well, produces good power, and more importantly will still keep ur car daily driveable.
Let me know if u need more help or information.
