LT1 Rebuild

I was wondering if anyone knew a ballpark figure on a 1995 Z28 LT1 rebuild. I am either going to rebuild the engine while also porting and polishing the heads and intake and also a cam...or buying a performance LT1 engine from go autocenter.com in dallas only having to use some of the parts (intake, injectors, timing chain, etc.) from my current motor. The engine is 2900 and I'll have to add about another 400 in parts above my current parts. Let me know if you have any reccomendations. I will also be adding a 58mm tb, longtube headers with a true dual exhaust using a dr. gas 2.5in X pipe and borla mufflers, 3.42 gears and some more extras. Thanks for the help.

somewhere between $3000 and $15000 depending on fast you want to go

I STRONGLY RECCOMEND getting new timing chain and new injectors are a good idea if you are going fast

Thanks for the reply...I've got a guy that is a real good porter that is a friend of my brother and will port and polish the heads and intake for $1000, then I just wanted to get a fresh rebuild on it. But if it is going to cost more than a new engine then I don't think I'm going to do the rebuild. The engine I am looking at produces 380hp and when you add the ported intake and throttle body it gets to be around 400hp and with the header back full exhuast I'm hoping for around 450 to the fly. Plus all the mods I already have done to it...you think 30lb injectors should be okay...or should I go with the original rebuild if it is cheaper? The kit I think is around 600 then what is the cost for install? I'm getting all sorts of figures so I really don't know what to base my figures on. My brother has a 90 cobra that runs mid 11's and it is really getting to me now, since he is 19 and I'm 24.

In my experience, always double the cost of what you think an engine project is going to be

Even if you would buy the $2900 longblock, you'd still have to pay at least $800 labor to switch motors unless you can do it yourself.

Then you'll need to get a custom program, etc..
