lt1 rebuild ??

so my lt1 finally needed to come out since my rear main seal took a crap on me .... anyway i have it out now and was wondering what all i should replace now, instead of doing it all again later cause something else broke. I was also wanting to put a cam in but have no idea what to get. I don't want anything too crazy, just more of a rough idle. The engine has 130,000 miles on it and ran great with no smoke or anything. so whats my best options? and what all should i buy if im just looking to get atleast 375 rwhp? and not spending more than 2 grand.

Make sure you check the back of the intake for the oil leak. It could be the gasket or the oil sending unit and not the rear main.

take it over to cincy speed, and tell them your goals and your budget, theyll set you up!

if you end up there in the next couple weeks, you will see my 97 getting a 383 transplant, and i will have my powerdyne up for sale. cheap thrills but my rings didnt last. my stock motor made very close to 400rwhp with the powerdyne.

If you want to do it right listen to the experienced people on this website and not your machine shop. I just built a motor that should be around 375rwhp and I kept it well under 2000, but you have to know what you're doing and not waste money on parts you don't need. Example: Edelbrock's waste of money intake... the shop recommending that shows me that either just want to make mark up on parts or don't know jack. I bet they wanted to sell you their stellar "in house" port work done by a guy who "builds race car motors".

Never mind, thought you were the thread starter, I see you have already fallen through the cracks, good luck on 400rwhp, actually make that 350rwhp, sorry man you got taken.

I agree. I just bought a set of DRM 400 ported heads, with the cam, valves and springs for 700 shipped. Honestly, try shopping these forums till you find something, these heads move me up to 400bhp, with that cam and I might as well go bigger since I can.

If you stay on stock heads, you'll like the CC503, everyone leans toward it for stock headed LT's. Its got power, but doesn't blow the driveability out the window. You'll need rockers, 1.6's, springs, I'm going to get 918 Beehives most likely, and a decent exhaust, I'm looking at 2.50" or 2.75" exhaust. Gotta get long tube headers too AKA: Proper set-up ha.

If you have an A4, most recommend the 3.73 differential, for M6 4.10's. Gears are a great way to get more out of your car then there actually is, only problem is you compensate the top speed for acceleration.

I say this because I'm working off my phone and can't see your mods, if you listed them like most guys do

Good luck!

Ok, see you've handled the exhaust well! I comment again to ask what is the "slp fan switch mod"? Does that keep your radiator fans off?

I ask bc my car's fans do not come on, and on hot days tends to overheat a bit. Nothing dangerous, but i'd like to know

Thanks!
