LT1 rebuild

i am getting ready to rebuild my LT1 out of my 95 trans am. i was looking at the sealed power engine package from summit racing it comes with everything including forged pistons for 529. i want to put a little bit bigger than stock cam in it. it is a daily driver and i sometimes take it to the track. im not really wanting to aspend alot of money on a stall converter and all of that kind of stuff. i just want a little bit more power and some more rumble at idle. what are good choices for a cam?

Re: LT1 rebuild

yes, both of the cams will need new spring. I would replace the stock even if I wasn't going to replace the cam. LT4 spring are cheap and are much better then the stock ones.

Re: LT1 rebuild

ANother idea for springs if your not going with a huge cam is useing the LS1 springs. You can use the LS1 springs just need to buy retainers and such to use them on the LT1. Just a price effective alternative if you find a set of cheaper LS1 springs. Thats what im using on my new LT1 build with hot cam.

EDIT Combination Motor Sports would be a great place to get your springs/rockers at a good deal and they will even hook up with alot of information.

Re: LT1 rebuild

The hotcam kit includes everything needed including cam, rockers and spring kit. This's a sweet little cam with a very good price, and what's good is that it's billet which is more durable then the cast comp cams.

Re: LT1 rebuild

224/230 is my vote, I had that cam in my car for a while and it was a great daily driver/ weekend drag car.

Good low and mid range power, also had a nice lope to it.

I just rebuilt my motor w/that kit and a few other things, it seems to be pretty nice kit for the money.

Re: LT1 rebuild

Since you're going for a stock type rebuild, you'll be spending money to at least resurface the heads, new valves, new seals, etc. Why not consider Lloyd Elliot's stage 1 cam/ported head combo? The cam will be similar to the hot cam in terms of drivability, but it's custom ground to the heads. This is basically easy 350+ rwhp that you'll only need to spin the motor barely past 6k to get. just thought...

what is the 224/230 cam? where can i look it up to get specs on it?

so far i have come up with about $850 dollars in parts shipped. this is including oil pump cam(still kind of undecided) bearings rings pistons gaskets valve springs and retainers. anything i am missing? what size bore should i go with? the machine shop said $150 for anysize bore all 8 cylinders. i am going to re seat the valves at school. i also plan on pocket porting the heads. i cant afford a head cam package becaus this is still my daily driver.

Combination Motorsports

Give them a call, they know what they're talking about.

It's where I got my parts from.

Re: LT1 rebuild

I have a stock '93 lt1 valvetrain with the stock hardened pushrods.

I'm putting in Aluminum 1.6 ratio NSA Roller Rockers in. I have the polylocks and hardened guideplates as well. I'm upgrading to the lt4 valve springs...do I need to buy anything else? Will the stock retainers work?
