LT1 Problems: Engine stalling when revving
LT1 Problems: Engine stalling when revving
Hey guys, Ill try to make it as short as possible. It started happening at the end of last summer, then I just stored the car since I had no time because of school. Now coming back, I want to take care of this problem. So here are the points:
1. Initially happened when driving a car, for no apparent reason. I noticed huge lack of torque transferred, just enough to get it moving slowly.
2. I was suggested that it could be clogged cat, I disconnected the cat... no change.
3. When revving, the engine RPM's dont go over 2500 no matter how much throttle, and eventually after pushing it hard the engine stalls. The oil pressure stays just below the midpoint during revs.
4. Sometimes when revving exhaust sounds weird, sort of deeper and slightly lower sound. From the quick video it happens towards the end.
5. This car hates me!
Video, sorry for crappy quality

Any input would be of great help to me, I stopped thinking its nothing serious, I guess I just gotta deal with it now
Thanks for reading!

yeah it can go bad in that period of time. If I recall correctly most makes recommend changing the fuel filter every 30k miles. Speaking of which i'm way overdue on my V6 camaro. that'll have to wait though.
Have you tried revving it up very slowly?
Hey guys sorry for the late reply.
I changed the fuel filter, which looked pretty fresh, didnt really see any residue in it. So it did not help.
One strange thing though, when I tried to bleed the schrader valve to let some fuel off, nothing came out... at all. But when I disconnected filter itself it poured out.
And yes I tried revving it slowly, same thing happens, it practically tops out at precisely 2500RPM and then the car shakes and stalls if you dont let off the gas.
Thanks to all who replied.

Opti? I mean if it was a gas problem it wouldn't do it exactly like that, burst and die. It would sometimes have enough pressure to get past the point. It would do the old blubbbb, blubbbb, blubbb, vroom! Not just a complete loss of ignition. That's my guess anyway.

Check the fuel pressure. You should have 43.5 psi with the vacuum line off the regulator and plugged.
After you get the running pressure, turn off the engine and watch the pressure. It should hold relatively steady...meaning drop or bleed slowly if at all. A quick drop in pressure on shutdown indicates another problem.
Anyway, it doesn't sound like an opti at all....to me...but we're guessing until you rule out other things.
Good luck
