LT1: OHV or OHC?
LT1: OHV or OHC?
So, this Mustang pulls up to me...2 yuppies in suits, and asked me if my engine had an overhead cam or overhead valve? Some blah blah chit chat stoplight talk...cheeseballs. I told them overhead valve, but now I'm not sure, never been asked that before. I'm not an engine guy...I just know you put some fluids in, throw in some sparks, and some exhaust fumes leave, cam turns, and car moves...hopefully fast.
Can someone answer this silly question, just in case this is a start of a pattern of random chit chat with cars that pull up to me.
By the way, just installed the Corsa exhaust last week, and since then, everyone and their mother is pulling next to me reving their engines......

All Z28's came with regular old ohv.
Thanks, now with this knowledge, I am unstoppable...
Tell him not to worry about it since your old school push rod V8 still has roughly 50rwhp over his weak OHC 4.6 V8 stock.
Those 4.6 SOHC motors are dogs. HP TV added a supercharger to their project car along with other boltons and it still only made something like 275rwhp

Never saw that episode, but I would have been mad as hell. Personally, I like naturally aspirated (yeah, yeah, you supercharged and NOS folks would smoke me), but if I were to go supercharged and only get 275 at the rear, I'd cry. Didn't know they were that weak.

I cann't get revs out of anyone with my exhaust. It's awesome.

me too
although a stock berretta did rev at me while we were stopped at a red light. He was in front of me and tried to smoke the tires
he won that race

Anyway, the 99+ GTs aren't that weak, and are a good race for a LT1 Stock VS Stock...

comparing a '99 to a motor that made production in '92, development started on the LT1's in like '89
long live the pushrod

I wasn't saying it like that...
Its just that most people like to bunch the 215 HP 96-98 GTs power wise with the 99+ GTs, and they are two totally different beasts

Since this is LT1 Tech, and the subject getting bashed is the SOHC 4.6, I want people that don't know, not to think that there Stockish LT1s will destroy the 99+ GTs the same as the 96-98 GTs if they are similarly modded.
Once again I think Ford should/Could be making a ton more power with that type of engine...
I love the people that think the SOHC Mustangs only have 1 cam. Uh, sorry charlie. It has two. And the Cobra has, FOUR. I know a guy that swears up and down the cobra is the only one with 2. Then again, he is such a tool that he thinks the 4.6L is a 289 CID. Boy, some people. I once heard of a guy that took the "power bands" from a motorcycle and put them in his car.
96 Caprice - I hope you were joking on the valve placement issue. While TECHNICALLY pretty much all production motors are OHV, (I cant think of any motor that is VIB, usually, OHV means the cam is in the block, while OHC means that it is in the head.
