lt1 OBDII tuning

is it possible with and OBDII to have a well built street lt1 with ported heads and such and LT headers, ory, and o2 sims, and by tuning the computer, still pass an emmisions test. all they do on 96 and above cars is plug in anyway, so if the sims tell the comp that there are cats, and your computer is properly tuned for what u have, will these testing facilities think everything is remotely ok and pass you (general idea i realize everywhere is different but u think its possible?)

Pretty much, with the plug in test, as long as you don't have a check engine light and you are not above the acceptable number of "not ready" statuses, you should pass.

Talk to your tuner but I think some of them can make it pass without having to buy O2 sims.

Programming out the rear O2 sensors is a common practice for LTX cars with-out Cats. And, more common and cheeper than the rear simulators.

True... but you don't want a not ready status. I have simulators. I will be putting cats back on my car though.

Like I said I believe some tuners have found a way to make it pass without sims.

"not ready" means the pcm is not giving something a passing report but not a failing one either. To an inspection tech this looks like maybe you reset the computer down the block to hide trouble codes and the code maybe just have not reset.

Nope. At least in CA, you still get tested with the sniffer and the plug in. With no cats, you will not pass the sniffer. So you might want to confirm how cars are tested in your county.

Thats something he should call and find out about. But I doubt WI is as strict as CA.

CA just sucks for their Hitler method at emissions that is all.

If you look under your states emmision laws, it should state how many not ready flags are allowed. More are allowed for 96-99 in Texas.

Also be advised that state emission laws and testing procedures can change and when they do change they get stricter and not easier. Just because you live in an area that today you can pass doesn't mean you can count on it next year. I have personally experienced this when I lived in NC.

I just became aware of another tuning option for OBD2 stuff. Thought this was interesting.
