My 253,000 mile LT1 finally died I think. I stopped at a stop sign, and the car started sputtering and oil pressure went to zero. The car is waiting to be towed, right now I have no idea what it is. There is no metal in the oil on the dipstick, but the engine ran less than 10 seconds without pressure, so it might have just not made it to the dipstick yet. Any other ideas what it could be?

...but that shouldn't make the car sputter and jerk like it is going to die, right? There were no knocking sounds that I could hear.

 

maybe the oil pump drive gear is stripped out

 

mine did the same thing but it ended up being electrical, my icm went out and as soon as i changed it...back to normal

 

The ignition control module caused your oil pressure to indicate zero & a rough idle? Weird...

If it really did lose oil pressure, and the engine ran rough becuase of that (it would barely idle), wouldn't that almost definately mean bearing damage?
