lt1 to lt4 CONVERSION

I've GOT a 95 formula and looking to do a engine build up, I was wondering if the lt4 conversion kit is worth it. With a solid rebuilt engine Will it really make the proven horse power? Just wondering what someone with more expericence could tell me. thnx

Personally, since I have done it, you can run 'fast' but it takes a lot of work to get there. I would recommend stock LT1 heads P&P by someone that knows there stuff (there are a few on the board) and get a good cam from the recommendation of the head porter.

I have a butt load in my heads and they still dont flow as well as an AI econoport LT1 head.

Yes, I think my car is running very well but it has taken a long time and some great air.

Look further down the road than the next 6-12 months if you plan on keeping the car longer than that....I was blind when picking my stuff...and now that tuning is available you can go much larger and still have great driveability.

YOu got to think about the goals for the car. The LT4 set up is an OK set up out of the box, once you get out of the box...there is more out there!!

While I love my LT4, I would recommend you go with P&P LT1 heads and a cam. You will make more power for less money. The LT4 is a great factory motor (HP of an LS1, torque of an LT1, and higher revving than either), but the there are cam/head packages available for lesss $$ that will make more power.

I didn't think the GM conversion for the lt1 to lt4 was normal. I know it's essentially based off of the stock lt4 motor but I thought the conversion would give an LT1 signifgantly more power after tuning.

The LT4 cam is different, smaller, than the LT4 HOT cam that comes with the package that most of us get....

The LT4 "kit" gives you the hotcam, which should give you another 30HP or so over the stock LT4 configuration.

LT1 to LT4 conversion is not worth it for the cash unless u buy the LT4 heads then pay another 1500 for better/max porting and valve work.

Just go with lloyd elliot or phil at AI for a heads/cam package. More power less money.

If your doing a bottom end rebuild then that has nothing to do with horsepower... just pick out the parts that fit budget, horsepower range, and application (NA vs Forced induction).

I agree with these statements!!! This coming from a guy with the conversion wanting more and has a **** load of cash in the heads that flow less than AIs Econo LT1s.....
