Lightbulb LT1 to LT4?

I have a 96Z with basically stock LT1(cold air induction only upgrade). Want to upgrade to LT4. Is there something I can do for around the same price that will work better, since LT4 intakes are almost impossible to find? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: LT1 to LT4?

Gm quite making the lt1 to lt4 conversion kit because they stopped making the lt4 intake. They do still sell the hotcam kit with lifters, springs, cam and seals. Its a pretty good kit. As for heads you'll make more power getting the stock lt1's ported, and getting the stock lt1 manifold ported to match. The lt1 to lt4 conversion kit is a great kit, but you can easily make more power with a aftermarket lt1 head and cam combo.

Re: LT1 to LT4?

The LT4 HOT kit isn't even that good once you stop to consider the springs are marginal, on the LT4 with it's lighter valves they were OK but not for LT1 valves.

There are too many better alternative to list. I chose www.advancedinduction.com and am very happy, have not been to the dyno but the online MPH/weight=HP calculators say a bit over 400rwhp to put that in perspective the LT4 HOT package is only good for 425FWhp which will be under 350rwhp through an A4. It was a decent alternative YEARS ago but today even if the intake were available it would not be worthwhile.

Many head/cam combos will get you more power for less money than an LT4 conversion. Do some searching on here on the LT4 conversion, AI and LE (LE1/LE2/LE3), for starters.

GM never made an LT1 to LT4 conversion kit. It was an aftermarket assemblage of various GM parts.

Re: LT1 to LT4?

you'd be better off talking to a head cam guy and setting up something with them. the lt4's main attraction was the 4-bolt main. just adding a 52mm tb and 1.6 rockers to your lt1 and you'd have about the same HP.

you can also splay your block if you have enough hp to need it. it's more security than the factory 4-bolt main and it's actually cheaper in the long run than finding a block and swapping it all over.
