LT1 and LT-1 Any difference? and carb troubles.
LT1 and LT-1 Any difference? and carb troubles.
I bought my second car on saturday, my second camaro to be exact, a '77 Camaro Type LT. I know lt has nothing to do with the engine, but the stock 305 was removed and an lt1 was put in. everything on it is performance. but i was told that there is a difference from the lt1 and the lt-1? is this true?
now before i bought this car, the engine was built and drivin on for 9000 Miles. then garaged for 7 years, until bought bymyself. So i trailered it home. put it in my garage, and so far have cleaned every single thing in the engine compartment. inside and out. flushed it and changed all the fluids. and bought a new battery. i siphoned the gas and put new stuff in. then i mark and removed the distributor, and turned the oil pump to get oil everywhere, i also removed everysingle spark plug and put a few squirts of oil in the heads. so i go to start it, it turns over, fuel goes through all the lines get to the fuel filter and is just poooooring into the carb. its a holley carb and has the tube on the top near the front right, gas started to squirt out of that every few turns of the engine. so could it be my car isnt starting because one of the floats is stuck and its beeing flooded like crazy? its sparking cause it kinda goes a tiny bit every few turns and smoke comes outta the carb haha. any help would be awesommmeee
May or may not be of any interest to you.

Re: LT1 and LT-1 Any difference? and carb troubles.
Are you talking about the tube that connects the front to rear float bowl? There are rubber O-rings on the ends of that tube. They're probably dried out and cracked from being stored so long. I would get a rebuild kit for the model of Holley you have. Floats could be stuck, like you say. Get a rebuild kit for the model Holley you have.

Our LT1 is the 2nd generation of SBC. It has a one piece rear main seal and a roller cam. It was the only engine to have reverse cooling and the front mounted distributor (behind the water pump).
Congratulations on your purchase. I hope it gives you years of trouble free service.

Re: LT1 and LT-1 Any difference? and carb troubles.
The 77 Camaro LT didn't have an LT1 engine. That died in the early 70s, it was basically just a 4 bolt main 350 with big valve heads. Small block performance was pretty much dead by the late 70's.
The carb is toast from sitting. I would rebuild it or replace it. Also, as long as it was sitting I would do a compression check to make sure everything it OK.
