lt1 to ls1 brake convert? need info.

saw this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2455704813

and was wondering what all i need to buy to get my stock 95 front brakes up to something better?? can i convert to ls1 with what is in this add?? i would love to go to a dual piston and slightly larger disc setup. bear and wilwood are just a bit out of my price range and from this add i am thinking ls1 for less than 500?? is this possible?? thanks in advance.

You have my vote for the LS1 upgrade. That add looks like everything you would need. If you do a search you will find a few topics on this. I have noticed a lot of people going with the new vette brakes. I went with the LS1 brakes and love them. Well worth the time and money. You can sure do it for less then $500. Check out Shoebox's site. Thats what I used when I did mine. Very good site! A good thing about this upgrade is that they will fit with stock 16 inch rims.

Don't forget about buying new brake pads. I did it, and I love them. The braking is about 1000 times better.

Simple swap, if all you are doing is the brake upgrade. Gets a little more involved if you go with upgraded tubular a-arms as I did.
Pics of my Ls1 brake swap in sig.

It is an excellent upgrade

Just remember that the spare tire (small one) from the LT1 will NOT fit over the LS1 calipers.... so you might want to look into getting an LS1 spare while you're at it just in case you get a flat on the front.

You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS put the spare donut up front. Putting it on the back and driving around for a while will ruin the differential. the posi will be wasted. Circumference of donut/spare is much smaller than circumference of regular tire. If was just a mile or two, it wouldn't matter, but I wouldn't drive 40 miles at 60mph with a donut on the back. If you do, stop by the auto parts store and pick up another differential on the way.

theres another one listed but without the hubs. can i transfer my lt1 hubs to the ls1 spindle?? also should i skip the whole thing and put on the bear's?? they want 750 and all i have to do is bolt them on. plus they are 13" rotors. i think the stock ls1 is only 12". i also think by the time i got an alignment, turned used rotors, bought new high quality pads, and bought whatever else i need i might be up to 400 or 450. should i just sink the 300 and go with the bear?? wilwood was like 1200. i dont know where the brembo's would be.

I "was" going to go with the Baer Setup. Instead I went with the Bob Bishop C5 Brake Adapters and installed C5/ZO6 brakes on my car. HUGE HUGE difference. Took me 4 hours from start to finish. VERY straight forward.

The entire setup cost me around $750 bucks. AND I can get parts for them anywhere I am. Seeing as they are Chevrolet parts, NAPA, PEP BOYS, AUTOZONE, TRACK AUTO etc..(you get the idea) all have parts for the brakes. So no matter where I am, if I break something I can go visit one of those stores. If I had a Baer System I would have to wait for a new rotor from them etc...

I have the Red ZO6 Calipers on my Black SS. I would do it again and again too.

Even the LS1 brake upgrade is a good one with a good set of pads.

i understand that completely... the last flat i had on the back, i put one of the front wheels on the back and put the donut on the front..... luckily the car made it home before it went flat as it had a 1/2" bolt through it

doug where did you get that kit?? i did some searching and havent been able to find it. i would love to have the whole thing as a kit. what size rotors are the z06 and the calipers are ?? single / dual?? i appreciate the help. going to a local store beats the heck out of waiting a week for parts.

Bob Bishop makes the adapter brackets for the C5 brakes

lateapex@charter.net

Here is what they look like
http://community.webshots.com/album/108708798nQHLxR/0

I just went over to his house yesterday and got the brackets. They are aluminum and $220.

The parts you need calipers, rotors, pads, etc will cost you about 500$ new from gm.

So for $750 you have a brand new set of brakes, much more stopping power, and look pretty cool.

Bob knows all of the details by heart.

I've been wanting to do the LS1 brake upgrade, but every time I see a set of LS1 brakes on eBay they always looked all rusted out and nasty...

Do these things clean up pretty well or what...?

Yes they do!!
Mine were surface rusty when I got them, I just hit them (knuckles) with my cheapy craftsman siphon sandblaster and sprayed them with a durable chip resistant enamel. As for the calipers, they will look bright like brand new if you use Eagle One Mag and aluminum cleaner (spray) I opted to spray mine red though after the cleaning so they wouldn't look dirty after a few weeks of use. Check the pics of mine in my sig. They looked just as bad as the ones pictured in that auction when I got them.

Yeah I've already checked out the pictures. Looks real good man!

So you felt a big difference after the install?
