LT1 with LE1 h/c VS LS1 WS6 T/A

Ok, so I just got done with the LE1 h/c swap and the entire time my car was down ive been running my mouth to my buddy about how Im going to smoke his stock ls1 ws6 when my car gets running. The only mods he has is a aftermarket ram air lid and an exhaust cut out.

So we went out tonight and lined em up.

Through 1st and 2nd I was pulling away hard, but as soon as he hits 3rd he catches me quickly and walks on me.

I am very dissapointed. To me my car doesnt feel any faster than before the h/c swap but I can tell it is because before he would beat me much worse.

Is my car just not running right or should a stck ls1 still beat a lt1 with the LE1 package?

I had a Hotcam LT1 with full bolt-ons and stock heads (see sig) and was beating stock LS1 pretty well. I would have expected you to walk away from him with an LE1 package. I am not an expert on the LE1 package, but I am surprised.

Yea I was very surprised myself. Through 1st and 2nd I was about to do a happy dance cuz I was pulling hard but once he hits 3rd its like its alot faster. I dont know its because I have the A4 and he has M6 or what. I wouldnt think that would make that much of a diffrence. My tranny doesnt have more that 20 to 25k miles on it and it doesnt feel like it slips.

its the shortie headers, flowmaster and mail order tune thats hurting you.

im not bashing mail order tunes but your not getting "the most" out of you set up

One thing I just thought of is the car was down for about 4 months. Could the gas be bad?

I just had my car dyno tuned about 2 weeks ago. I know that I had a mail order tune and it ran great. But the way the dyno operator loaded the dyno and programmed while it was under certain drive conditions was outstanding. You can probably get more from the dyno if you really want to dial it in.

Either you are having issues with your car or he has something done to his that he is not disclosing.

i agree the shortys and the flowmaster is a big problem. cam cars need to breath a lot more go for some long tubes. And far as the tune goes I would want a actuall dyno tune because every car will run different even if they have same mods.

You should have smoked his *** so you either need a driver mod or something isn't right with your setup. Lash, knock retard, etc. My guess are those two things. I had a MadZ28 tune in my LE1 when I first got it on the road and even with the desensitizing done I was still getting 8* of knock and it was real. I bet that is the case with yours too. Adjust your lash because it's probably too tight and get a log of your car and see what the knock is. Send your PCM back to Ion and tell him to pull timing, I had to do that twice with my setup before all the knock was tuned out.

I just ordered an lt4 knock module and I'm looking for a place to dyno tune the car but its kinda hard to find a place. Most of my searching has resulted in finding shops that have dynos but you have to know how to do your own tuning. The only ones ive found that also do the tuning are import shops.

LT4 knock module does nothing if your PCM has already been desensitized. Where do you live, you might be able to get some help from people that live around you that may know of someone.

Im in the Gilbert/Chandler area in Arizona.

He didn't say anything about desensitizing it. I figured the lt4 module would be better than getting the stock one desensitized.

I need to get the car on a dyno for sure.
