lt1 into a third gen how hard is it?
i went and looked at a 92 camaro z28 which the body and int is just cherry. it does have a a 355 and a new trans. but my 94 camaro was just totaled out and i can buy it back with only 53,000 miles on it for 1,700$. so i was thinking of doing that and swapping the lt1 into the thirdgen. how hard is that???? and should i buy the car back for 1,700$ that sound like a good price for basically the whole int. and a low milage engine and trans. the exterior is beyond repair though and most of the parts on the exterior can not be saved.
i've followed your car for awhile now. i had a thirdgen for my first car a couple years ago and went to a mustang than a 4thgen and now i am looking into thirdgen agains. how logn would the swap realistically take? i know your car has taken awhile cause u have changed your mind and what not so many times. i am ognna have some extra cash left over from the total so i was thinking since i have the complete donor car of just going to a shop and saying i have 2 cars one that is totalled with a complete engine and one i want that engine put into. how much would soemthing like that cost?
On my friends car, it took one weekend to get everything in and running.
We used a Custom Speartech wiring harness to simplify wiring of the engine. That harness makes the install a plug and play affair.
We worked on my friends car for a total of 4 weeks outside in my driveway since the garage was packed with 2 motors and tranny's and boxes of parts,

so we had the weather to deal with.
his car went through a major changeover, Autemeter gauges, the LT1/4L60E, stall, shift kit, gears, Auburn Posi, custom fuel system, fixed the rag joint, installed a wonder bar, ram air hood, etc....
Having everything there for the swap, you should be able to complete it in less than 4 days.
I think a shop would charge you $2000+ to do the swap.
$500 to pull each motor, and $1000+ to install the LT1 and wire all the stuff up.

There is a ton of information here.
If you have the donor car, should install easily. Do some research on hooking up the 92's speedometer to the newer VSS. Mine was mechanical drive and I had to modify the trans accordingly. Everything is pretty much a bolt-in, you have to modify things to run AC and you need a custom trans cross member. I fabbed mine starting from an LT1 car's.
Figure it will take you 80hrs to do the swap, less if you have all the right parts ready to go, like a plug in wiring harness, fuel lines, power steering lines etc.
Here's a photo of mine (at the bottom of the post)

Oh ya, $1700 is a great deal for a 100% complete car drivetrain in a known condition. You can even swap the seats and console if you're into that.

im a bit worried about the last stage that im gunna be doing soon, the wiring part.. i am pretty lost as to make all the electrical work out , since im not using a painless harness, i got a computer and harness out of a 96 z28, so i guess theres going to be some splicing or what not, does anyone have wiring information on the lt1 swap to thirdgens? i ve tried to find some, but still a bit confused as how to do it..and what to do really..

The swap in general isn't that bad. As far as getting the engine in its just like any other swap. The electrical is the most difficult in my opinion if you are using the stock harnesses. Check thirdgen.org for a LOT of info on the swap, just about everything is covered on the Engine Swap board. Also, e-mail any of us that have done it, I'll definitely help you as much as I can and I know most of these guys will too.
Good luck,
Tristan
