LT1 Intake to work with LT4 style heads?

Well seeing as how the LT4 intake has been discontinued its becoming very hard to come by at a resonable price. I am wondering if its possible to make an LT1 intake work with LT4 heads by any means of machine work etc.

Also I keep coming accross TWO DIFFERENT part numbers for the LT4 intake manifold.

12550630 and 12550631

can someone explain the difference?

thanks

Yes edelbrock is in the process of creating LTX manifolds for both the LT1 and LT4. The parts are listed in the catalog but I have spoken directly to their tech staff and they claim the manifold is still in the testing phase and that if it isnt satisfactory that they may scrap the whole thing. So you can take that with a grain of salt. But heres the skinny call up lloyd elliot talk to him and he says that he can add metal to your LT1 intake to get it to line up with the LT4 heads for about 200 bucks. He assured me that any old machine shop could do it but I wouldn't trust just any old machine shop. I hope that gives you some insight into what needs to be done to get the LT1 intake to work with LT4 Heads. Wait for Edelbrock to finish with their prototype or call up lloyd elliot.

Hmmm wont hold my breath on the edelbrock thing. Sounds good though

I will have to give Lloyd a call and see what he says about it.

I guess most/all aftermarket heads use the LT4 manifold?? Don't the porters get almost as much hp out of cnc'd stock LT1 heads and intakes?? The LT4 is a pain in ***, worth it??

Re: LT1 Intake to work with LT4 style heads?

Everything about an LT1 intake lines up fine with LT4 heads, what it lacks is enough material on top of the ports for a good seal or for port matching to the TALLER LT4 ports. MOST people mistakenly think the LT4 intake was signifigantly different than the LT1 and would be wrong. The ports and plenum are near idential in shape, size, and location to the late LT1 intakes, it is more material on top of the ports and being red that make it different.

Like Dwayne said just add the material over the ports and the LT1 intake will work. I would add 3/8ths of an inch and port match
