Lt1 intake porting

I am thinking of buying this off of someone i know to dress up my engine bay a little bit and also to allow my LT to breath a little better because its ported

HOWEVER, my question is what do you guys think of this port job????

it doesnt look like the cleanest in the world.....would i want to have a shop make them perfect before i installed them or would it be ok to just throw it on??

Also im not really trying to do this for a performance upgrade, but more of a engine bay dress up thing.........however since it is ported would i gain much hp from it??

THanks guys, Scott

Porting the intake manifold really gains you nothing. I discussed it with Loyd Elliot and he said it would add about 5hp to the port job on the heads. Not sure it would add anything if the heads were not ported to match.

I can't really see any port work in your pics. The runners look normal to me. Did they port it for a bigger throttle body?

I've got one just like it. I even polished the top ribs and fuel pressure rails.

Looks like they just ported for an aftermarket TB..... looks like a good job though. Grab it if the price is right and you have an aftermarket TB you want to run. I gasket matched my intake with the good 'ole dremel.

looks decent enough if the price is good. a little bit of patience and a dremel tool and you can clean that up a bit yourself.

They have a conical bit/cutter made for aluminum.... that's what I used. Just don't push it too fast when you're cutting or it will heat up and "load up" the cutter. I ended up having to buy a second bit after I did this to the first one.

Re: Lt1 intake porting

If the runners have been ported then they could potentially rob some power because of an overlapping problem. You never want the intake runners of an intake to be larger than that of the runners on the heads.

Re: Lt1 intake porting

The red color indicates the mainfold is actually an LT4, and not an LT1. Although, it could be an LT1 that has been painted red. But it appears to me to be an LT4 when you look at the bolt holes, which have the bare aluminum which is exactly how the red LT4s are powder coated.

If it is and LT4 intake, the intake ports will not match the LT1 heads correctly. It also appears to have the TB venturas machined out to 58mm.

Great photos of the inside of the manifold. It does look like a LT4 manifold though.

hmmm, the guy said it was a lt1. And he just powdercoated it. he wants $75 plus my stock intake. Personally i dont think its worth that much, maybe 75 without my stock one, but thats just My opinion

Re: Lt1 intake porting

Sounds reasonable to me based on what Ive seen powedercoated LT1 intakes go for in the past... plus its modified to accept a 58mm TB.

The shade of red, the amount of sheen, the clear areas around the bolt holes and the overspray look nothing like an LT4 intake.

It's a red LT1.
