Just qurious, can an LT1 intake be put on backwards like the LS1? Thinking about a upcomming project.

If any of you know for sure, I would appreciate it!

You can't just put it on backwards. It will require some modifications for it to work. Archie at V8Archie does it (he does Fiero LT1 conversions) but I'm not sure exactly what he modifies.

I dont think the throttle body would have enough clearance inbetween the firewall and the intake. You would have to shorten throttle cables most likely if clearance wasnt an issue. vaccuum lines would also need modification. But I'm really just guessing here.

Re: LT1 Intake on backwards?

Thanks Ion, but that article didn't really tell me what I wanted to know, but I guess it did, in a way. The firewall clearance and cable routing don't concern me. I was just wanting to know if everything was symmetrical to where it would bolt on and the ports would line up correctly. I guess it does since he didn't mention that he had to modify the intake in any way.

Thanks for the help!

I'm just wondering, what is the point and benefit of doing this?

It's just a clearance issue. Non- F-body related. No performance advantage at all.

Several blower/turbo guys with custom firewall/cowl areas do this to keep the front of the engine bay a lil less busy.

Usually on a "sure enough" racecar.

That can be moved to above the oil filter.

Yeah, it's hen they have an air-to-water intercooler in the passenger compartment, they run the tube under the dash and through the firewall and straight into the TB.
