LT1 heads and guideplates

I am wondering if you can run guideplates on LT1 heads without machine work. If so, what kind work best . Thank you in advance. Prorac1

Sure you can.... no machining required.

Personally, I like the Isky adjustables because of the adjustability (duh).

Flatlander Racing and others carry them.

Thank you for the response. Do you think it is beter to run self aligning rockers, or run guide plates. Thanks again. Prorac1

Running guideplates and non self-aligning rockers is the best way to go for valvetrain stability. The closer to the center (length wise) you can support the pushrod the better for keeping the pushrod flex down. Think about it.

what rockers are you using? Im just afraid that the hex on the stud will hit the rocker. this is a budget daily driver, so whats a good suggestion. Again, thank you for the help. Prorac1

Pro,

I run a slightly different head than stock, which requires a shaft rocker setup. So what I'm running doesn't count.

The Comp Pro Magnums (chromoly steel) are a great buy. Crower makes a stainless rocker that's similiar but cost a bit more..... same for the stainless Comp Hi Tech.
Alot of guys on the board also like the Crane golds and I'm also partial to Harland Sharp's aluminum rockers. Any of these would serve you well, so just find a good price and go. As for nut to rocker clearance.... never seen a problem there. Watch for retainer to guide seal, rocker to retainer and coil bind.

They show two different guideplates. One for 5/16" pushrods and one for 3/8". I assume stock LT1 pushrods are 5/16?
