You will be able to take a cobra with full boltons and a cam fairly easily. Even if you race a fast one 110mph you should still be able to keep up with it or beat it. I have yet to see a stock cobra go over 110 mph at our tracks.

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

So basically you need to trap at least 110 to keep up with a 03/04 cobra. Usally a well runing full bolt on car will trap 107-108 in good air. So i'm going to say full bolt ons and a cam should be more than enough to take a stock cobra, there are guys traping 114 on the stock heads and bigger cams like the cc306 and gm847, hell a hotcam kit might even be enough in a well set up car.

Beating a stock cobra is as easy as DR's and Spray. To beat a pullied one you'll also needs heads/cam

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

Many ppl have mentioned it, but Im going to add to the vote for bolt-ons with spray. This is the same plan I have going on for my car.

My car will be reliable enough to run lapping days and do cruising on the wkends. Fuel mileage should be the same as stock if not a big better with the freer flowing exhaust. When it comes time to race from a roll-on or at the strip, just crack the bottle open and I should see mid 12's @ 115ish on street tires, which should be enough to hang with a stock cobra.

I like to have the power all the time imo. With a properly tuned cam you can still get 20+ mpg on the highway and then spray deep into the 11's to take out the modded ones

Heads, cam, bottle. Then you won't have any problems with 99% of the 03/04 Cobras out there.

Here are two examples of usual 03/04 Cobras in my area.

1) Intake, exhaust, bottle, tires. 11'ohs/10.90's.

2) Intake, exhaust, ported blower, 50 shot, tires. Traps 135 mph.

I got them before he started doing packages. I've got the bigger valves, and a 200cc intake port. So pretty close to LE2's. I think I might trade in the CC306 and try the LE3 cam.

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

8lb supercharger with a built bottom end (forged pistons/rods at very least) and some nice LE or trickflow heads

you may have 1L displacement on him, but he has twice the valves :P

this not about beating a cobra its about beating the time

which its not hard to get a lt1 to hit a 12.8 with bolt-ons
My neighbor has a '04 Cobra. He races a lot at the local track so I'd say he's pretty experienced when it comes to runs down the 1/4 mile. He runs on drag radials and has a Demon (?) PCM tune (one of those handhelds that only adds maybe 25HP). He told me he finally got his launch down and this past Friday, managed a 12.1 and a 1.6 sec. 60' time.
I also do believe that these Cobras are conservatively rated in MFG HP specs. There's a Cobra club here and many have stated they pull dyno numbers that would indicate (doing the reverse math for drivetrain loss) FWHP numbers closer to 450HP than the stated 400.

rofl, 12.4...............like a snowballs chance in hell

we are talking about a STOCK 03-04 cobra. some domestic guys have a scewed definition of stock.

12.8 is the quickest i have heard of in the boats!!

however i would take one over my car in a heartbeat
