What have you done to your car and can still pass smog with? Any one have any problems with haiving a cut out, even when its closed while taking the test? Aftermarket Cams? What headers do you have?

I don't have a cutout but, I'm looking in to getting one. My mods are in the sig. I pass every time smog is due. Hope this helps

Lingenfelter motor in mine - comes with an EO#

A cutout is legal, assuming it's behind the cat (and closed for the test). Your best bet of course is to have all parts with EO#'s. Your next best bet is to have a raft of EO#'s for parts that are generally similar to the ones on your car... But be prepared to flash them in advance in a nicely written up summary of the mods, don't wait for the smog guy to "discover" stuff on his own.

Cams, and various headers are your only real concern. Home made CAI wont pass obviously, unless you do a really good job maybe you could pass it off with an EO# from something else, but you would need a fitting to go to the AIR pump.

T-56 (not smog legal in my car ..... I cannot even begin to describe how much I despise this state)
Full-length Tri-y Headers (not smog legal, got sticker from SLP,retain the AIR fittings and such and you will be kosher)
Fancy Pants custom intake and cold air box (guy did not care because I retained the smog pump vent)
No tailpipes (not the smog guy's business, but it will **** him off)
Flowmasters (plural)

Tailpipe was so low, it hardly registered.

My dang gas cap failed. Weird, eh? The really odd thing is that it passed the WEEK before.

Retain all your smog equipment and you will be dandy.

I believe it was 1987 when they passed that semi-stupid drivetrain law. If you start changing transmissions or engines around you have to recertify your car, technically speaking.

Yes it sucks, welcome to the Republik.

I removed the AIR pump, however everything aftermarket on my car has an EO number (headers, blower etc.). I still have EGR as well would I be able to pass smog? I mean I'm almost sure my car will pass with a jiff it's running perfect but will the AIR pump screw me?? Could I just break it down to the smog guy that everything is legal except that and that it doesn't do anything anyway???

The AIR pump is a smog device, ergo it must be on the car.

They go down a checklist of crap that you HAVE to have. If there is something on the list (smog pump) and you do not have it or even if it is there, but non-functional; you fail. No "but see here, I pass out the tailpipe", they do not care. My EGR was present, but the guy could not get a signal from it so I failed (just needed a reprogram so my car knows that I am shifting now). I would say there is no way (short of a bribe - which kinda negates the trouble of purchasing smog legal stuff) you will pass without a smog pump. Sorry.

Matt

P.S. Dr. Mudge, is your Z-28 running these days? Kertong (Kyung) was telling me a while ago that you blew a head gasket. How goes it?

I passed with all in my sig, and plan to do longtubes soon, from what I noticed some shops don't care to look under the hood. But don't go by that, get to know people in your area and see what they're running. I still am waiting to hear about someone passing smog with the xe 224/230 cam.

Yep, long story on the headgasket thing, to think all that hassle was over a $17 sensor. Its now my daily beater once again
