LT1 forged pistons

I'm building up an LT1 that will have the stock crank stock rods but forged pistons. I also plan to later throw NOS (150 shot at most) on the motor. My question is what pistons are recomended for my application. Keep in mind I would like to see about 10.7:1 or a bit more compression. Another question is if anyone has forged pistons already in their LT1, which manufacturer did you go with and did you like what you got. Who are the worst piston manufacturers for these motors aswell.

Re: LT1 forged pistons

I have some JE pistons. The SRP pistons are their cheaper version but still very nice for the money.

Probe is an awesome piston for the cost.

Worst is the federal mogul or whatever is in the summit rebuild kit. HEAVY.

Keep in mind, if you get a forged piston and plan to spray it you need to run a bigger ring gap, they like to expand.

I love mine, on cold mornings (talking 50F or lower) they have some pretty bad slap and it has to warm up a few seconds before you can drive it. Summer days I can start up and drive off.

Re: LT1 forged pistons

We set mine up for .025/.028 (top/bottom ring).
First tech at JE said 22/25 would be fine for 200 shot.
Second tech said that was pushing it.
Machine shop thought it was close so we went up.

I burn a tiny amount of oil, but nothing to worry about. With a good build and rings you shouldn't see any major blowby until well over a .030 gap.

I used the TRW/Speed Pro. They are a little heavier than SRP but they are built like a tank. Great Price.

Manley, Probe, Ross, Diamond, JE/SRP, Lunati, Venolia. There are many good pistons available for SBC's. I have alwyas had good luck with JE/SRP.

Re: LT1 forged pistons

I have SRP. I kinda wish I upgraded them, as I upgraded every other part of my shortblock, but they should still handle way more than Im gonna ever give them.
