lt1 engine rebuild question

Hi everyone, I was hoping i could get some suggestions on rebuilding my LT1 engine in my 94 camaro Z28. current mods are edelbrock headers, 58mm throttle body, borla exhaust, hi-flow cat, and a functional ram air. the vehicle has a six speed manual trans. my engine has a lower rod knock, so the enigne is coming out. my question is, I was looking into getting the cylinder heads and intake manifold ported with a hot cam vs. getting the LT4 coversion kit with the hot cam. i know the valves are slightly larger on the LT4 heads, so I'm not sure which way I want to go. I also would like to do something a little more than stock to the lower end(i guess having it bore out 30 over) with better pistons. any ideas????.....thanks

Re: lt1 engine rebuild question

if your going to all the trouble of pulling the motor id rebuild it. first, find out how trashed the cylinders are then pick your pistons based on how far the machinist says youll have to overbore. www.jepistons.com has a sportsman product line that will work great.

since its just gonna be a stock displacement rebuild i wouldnt touch the intake other then opening it up for a bigger TB.

as far as heads/cam packages go, id go with ported stockers from either AI or Lloyd and a matching cam that they choose. this will make more power then an out of the box lt4 package w/ hot cam.
