I own a 97 RS Vert. I just won a wrecked 97 z28 off ebay and have a question about it. I going to be using it as a donor for a v8 swap into my car. I haven't picked it up yet or even seen it in person. The guy told me after I won it that the car " doesn't key" due to the computer being tripped and needs reset or something like that. He said he was told that due to the airbags going off, it trips the computer to shut the car down. I bought my 97 RS vert wrecked, and the bags were blown and had no problem still starting the car. The only thing electrical I had to replace was the airbag module when I put in the new airbags and dash. Is this true about the computer being tripped? The car again is a 97 z28, the 30th ann with the white seats and wheels, with only 35k miles on it. I'm just a little cocerned about this computer though being that I need it for the swap. Has anyone heard of the computer tripping in an accident and needing reset, or is the computer just fried. Again, I don't have the car yet, but just seeing if anyone has any insight. TIA.

Well i am not sure about it being "tiped" but i think you can get a used stock computer for like $100 or something.

 

I have not heard that about the computer. That does not mean it might not be true (I have my doubts, though).

 

I bought a wrecked LS1 and the airbags were deployed and it runs fine. I don't see why the LT1 would be any different. I would suspect the computer or maybe the seller is hiding a few mechanical problems from you?

 

If you get the car and need a computer I have a 100% stock one laying around from a 96 z auto. If you pay shipping it is yours. I went the ODBI conversion route.
