LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

Is there such a thing? I thought I had heard about them in the past, either a proposed number built or limited numbers or something?

I found a guy claiming to have a few and wanted to know the deal...

Bowtie blocks are made by GM (or made by someone FOR GM) as stronger/heavy duty blocks. Similar to Dart/Motown/etc.

I've heard the upper limit of the stock GM LT1 block is 1400 hp and then they start to split. A Bowtie block should handle more than that.

Re: LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

"i have one 350 main and one 400 main. these are 2 of about 10 blocks that made it through the sonic check. the other 20 or so had to be scraped due to major core shift. The price on these will be a pretty penny considering they are so rare."

This is what he said about the blocks... First I've heard of this "for real" not an urban legend tale. I've asked him to snap some pics and e-mail me and how much he wants for one or both.

This guy has a bunch of Camaro parts and seems to know his stuff, so I'm really curious. But until I see them with my own two eyes I won't believe it.

Re: LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

At best it could be someone took a couple gen1 blocks and modified them to work with LT1 components which is possible. BUT if someone truely had truely cast some or even modified some gen1 blocks they would target hardcore proffessional racers not your average f-body enthusiast.

the "bow tie" block is done by GMPP. he sounds like his info is at least half correct 'cause i thought all the "bow tie" and sportsman blocks were done off of the gen1 blocks, but i could be wrong. ill check with GM partech on monday and i will be able to tell you guys more.

Re: LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

Well this guy has a "junk yard" of sorts at his house full of F-bodies and Y-bodies. He says he knows a guy that worked at GM's proving grounds and has some interesting "inside" information.

Like someone at GM removed an LT5 out of a ZR1 and put one of these "bowtie" blocks in, at a 400ci size.

Claims that some of the GM execs didn't like the LT5 motor because it was not built in house.

And he didn't target anyone, the blocks in question just sorta came up as a side note.

But I live withen an hours drive of him so if I ever get pics and investigate I will. I would never buy something like this online, sight unseen.

He just proved he is full of ****, the LT5 shares little to nothing with the LT1 or 4 or gen1

Re: LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

It sounds like BS to me. Ive got to agree with everyone above that it sounds kind of fishy to me. Get a picture of the casting number....then judge. They seem like they would be more geared towards racers anyway, I don't know of too many people who even have cars that will make more than 1400 HP.

So I guess it is totally unfathomable to think that any motor could go in the same space that an LT5 occupied?

I agree with the others, RE-READ the post.

And if I do lay eyes on this supposed "bowtie block" I'll take pics and put them up. If there is one or two available, then I'd like to get my hands on one or more.

He claims one has 350 main journals and one has 400 main journals...

Re: LT1 "Bowtie" blocks?

I took it as replacing the block of the LT5 to get more cubes. That explain my statement. Hence the statement about5 how little the motors shared meaning the LT5 parts would not have bolted to another block.
