might as well get forged. Never know, you could come across a 150 shot on the side of the road or something....

You need to get your block and crank mic'd before you can order a rebuilt kit.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

Hey, if you want to rebuild your motor then you should do it right the first time. Federal Mogul are some of the lowest quality/ mass produced parts. You dont want to have subpar parts for your car. Just wait a little longer and can have a really nice motor. Also note that you should have your block looked at because the amount of wear will dertermine what bore everything should be. Im not a expert on engines by any means but I do know a little.

Good luck.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

i agree!! you dont want to have to do this twice. make sure you get good parts and have a reputable shop build the motor. i am currently in the process of redoing my bottom end again. i had it redone 4 yrs. and 18,000 miles ago but it all needed to be gone through again. it started with just an oil burning problem which ended up being a combo of cheap rings and a sh*tty bore and hone job, but after tearing into the motor i found alot more problems with it. my mistake was that i took it to a crappy builder the first time. oh well, it happens.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

I would go with the summit forged rebuild kit. It costed me like 499 for the kit and like 300 for the forged rods. This bottom end has the stock crank and it see's 7000 rpm every day i drive it. It also runs the GM847 cam and LE2 heads. The local engine builder went with some arp bolts and maincap hardware, but other than that special thing the car is a basic rebuild. This thing is a monster and I believe that overdoing the bottom end is a waste of money. But thats just a poor mans outlook.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

First send out your block to have it hot tanked and checked for cracks, core shift, wall thickness, etc.

Once you know you have a sound block and what overbore you are going to use, you can order parts. I strongly suggest that you build the best bottom end you can afford. Even if you end up using stock heads again for a while, it will NEVER be cheaper to do it right than it is right now.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

Those are very good prices, I went with the same pistons and the I beam rods instead of the H Beam and you also get an eagle crank. I paid around the same price after it was said and done. I would use this offer from Victor Racing if I had to do another one. I would go with the 383 at that price as well.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

Federal Mogul bearings are not bad at all , especially for the price.
The Rebuild kit (rings, bearings, full gasket set) from Summit is 317.## plus 6 dollars handling. This comes with a moly faced top ring.

If youre going with new pistons, you can't really beat Summits kit with pistons ,same rebuild kit as above , but with pistons, oil-pump and, freeze plugs. If you figure 4-500 $ for machinework you do it for less than 1500 $.

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

So far i'm leaning on the summit rebuild, cause i'm on a budget, don't know what i'm getting for my income tax yet. I would love to get a shortblock from victory racing, but no funds for that, at least for now. Those of you who have done the summit rebuild kit, has it worked out good 4 u? any problems, i really appreciate all u guys replying with your input.
GO BEARS!!!

Re: Lt1 Bottom End Rebuild Kit

I am using the summit forged kit. But like I said above. Time you order the kit, $400, Then get decent rods, $200, Then have the machine work done your looking at another $900 realistically. Plus any other things you decide to do to it like better oil pump, different oil pan windage tray etc you are looking at around $2000 for the bottom end to be rebuilt. I have a spreadsheet of how much everything has costed me to date to get where I am and its not cheap.

You can look at my website and see the specs of my motor.
