lt1 94 z28 clicking when trying to start
On my 94' Z28...often when i try to start my car there is clicking noise and it won't start. The power will also start to turn on and off and i'm not sure why. Sometimes the car starts with out any clicking. i thought it might be the starter, but since the power is going on and off i thought maybe it was the battery or a battery cable...the battery is fairly new though...anyone have any ideas??

Check your battery terminals and make sure they are tight and clean. Also check and make sure all the grounds are tight and clean. Get a load tester to test the battery to see if it is still good as well, even though it is fairly new.

I just had the same problem on one of my cars. It was the pos. batttery cable was rubbed through in a spot and would ground out once in a while. Probably a cable or loose connection if not then it could be something in the starter soleniod.

Sounds like a simple loose connection. The clicking you hear is your relay being energized to supply the power to your starter. One the relay is energized then power is trying to get to the starter but it can't get there. There is always going to be a click but it is usually going to be drowned out by the starter cranking. The dashes and lights turn off because the car is trying to save energy to start the car, it needs all the juice it can get.

Battery Cables, loose connections with the battery terminals, grounds, and possibly the starter motor. I should add that if you have an oil leak dripping on the starter motor that the oil on the connections could be a problem.

battery is about to go. start saving for a new one. also check the alternator at pep boys or advance. they do it for free, and it cant hurt. if you have corrosion on the terminals, use a wire brush and some coke(not the drugs) to wipe away the nasties.
