lt1 4 bolt main bored .040 over...$150?
Not real familiar with blocks that have been bored or stroker's or anything....but my guess is that this is a pretty good deal?!?!
Found it for sale somewhat local to me and I think i'm going to go with a good mechanic friend to check it out.
What all could be had with a block bored .040? Like I already stated, not familiar with stroker's...lol
TIA,
Adam

With a 3.75 crank it would be a 385 I believe and with a stock it would be a 357 and with a 3.875 crank it would be a 398 with a 4.0 crank it would be a 410 woohoo, but I believe you have to have machine work on the block to make the crank fit and then lower profile piston heads I'm sure

That is a good deal as long as the block it okay. 2 bolt cores usually sell for 150.00 at a machine shop and the 4 bolts are fairly hard to come across. Look for obvious cracks in the block, stripped threads, and check out the main journals. Look for scratches or scars in the journals as well as discoloration on the main caps, any of these signs indicate that it spun some bearings which can render the block useless. Sometimes a block can be line honed to fix the damage from spun bearings, sometimes they can't, only the machine shop can tell you. If you're nervous about the person you're buying it from I would se if he'll let you take it to a machine shop to have it checked out before you buy it, theres a lot of stuff you just can't see with the naked eye.

Honestly, i dont know if it's been run like that or if it's fresh from the machine shop. I'm gonna call the guy tomorrow and ask him a bunch of questions about it.
It's located about 1 1/2 hrs from here so i doubt he'd let me bring it up here to get checked out and i dont know of any reputable shops down his way. I might find out who did the work and talk to them about it.

If it is fresh at .040" and is not cracked it is a good deal...if it has been run extensively at .040" and the cylinders cannot be kiss-honed without exceding specs, then I would not buy it...it's hard to go .060" on the late model blocks...you would need to have it sonic tested to make sure there is enough wall thickness left. Only pay money contingent on a successfull magnafluxing for cracks...the late blocks like to crack in the lifter valley front to back along the cylinder walls.
