LT1 383 budget build in progress; need opinions

We are thinking forged Speed pro or Diamond pistons, STOCK rods (37k) and cannot decide between a cast or forged crank.

This car will be an all motor car with a nasty cam. Our goal is max effort on Motor. My buddy already has put alot of $$$ into a stage 3 head port. Now we are trying to figure out what will be necessary for building a sutable rotating assembly. Is a cast crank ok for all motor? what brands would you recommend? What about the stock rods? What timing set?

Need some insight from you stroker guys

thankx

Stock LT1 rods are supposed to be good up to 425 horsepower according to GM, so if you are running stock rods then i wouldnt worry about anything more than a cast crank. A friend of mine runs 11.6's at 116mph on a gen 1 383 sbc with forged pistons, stock rods and a cast scat stroker crank with ARP fasteners.

If you have the money get better parts always but if its a tight budget then i dont see a problem with using a cast crank.

BTW general engine recomendation should be posted in a gen spacific forum, moving to LT1 Tech. Thanks.
