Ok my buddy is wanting to make his 70 1/2 a LT1 EFI T56 car, About all what would he have to do? How Much would he be spending? Has someone already done it?

I was thinking he could already use the Long tubes he has... and thats about it....And i dont know about keeping his radiator?

Re: LT1 in a 2nd Gen FBODY

I would suggest he either convert an earlier SBC to EFI or go with a Gen III SBC like LS1/2/6/7. The 2 major hang ups of the LT1 are reverse cooling and the fantastic engineering feat, the optical distributor. Put right behind the water pump.

pretty easy though, do a search, the mods needed are pretty much the same as installing in a third gen

The OPti problem is over rated in my eyes, i changed mine about a year ago, and no problems with it. and as far as the Gen III, he dosnet want to spend that much money on it. We looked in to EFI for the Gen I SB, but thought an LT1 would just be a better route

you could probably drop a big block in there for about the same price and have a lot more potential for power than an LT1 down the road.

Re: LT1 in a 2nd Gen FBODY

I droped on in my 84 and its not that bad. TH eMotor mount holes in the block are the same location as a std. chevy Sb so he can use his stock M/M's. He can also use what ever SBC headers fit his car with the LT1, i used my L83 headers just fine. Now on to the fun stuff.
start with a complete LT1 (all sensors brackets assy's ECM and harness.
the harness will need to be need to converted to a three wire connection (Jims performance can do it for him, I did my own)
The ECM will need to be emisions free and Vats disabled (Ion did mine)
He will need to add some place to run the steam vent into the cooling system, (I used a 94 corvette T)
He will need an inline pump capable of 42 PSI (T-Rex would be a good choice)
You will need to see if the F-body asy bracket will hit, if it does just use the corvette bracket as it places everything up high on the drivers side.

Here are a couple of shots of my LT1 powered 84 corvette

Where do you live man? Its $2.40 right now where I'm at and thats probably one of the cheapest prices in the state. I am going to San Fran for the weekend, I am afraid to look at gas prices there.

Re: LT1 in a 2nd Gen FBODY

a built LT1 with hogged heads and a massive cam won't make that much better gas mileage than a big block, and a big block can make great power on 87 octane. my buddy has a BBC in a 71 Camaro and he dropped the compression for a future blower and still makes 396 RWHP on regular gas.

or if you have about $17,000 to drop for an engine try this one. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0763&langId=-1
