LT install pointers?

Anyone got an suggestions ro insight to installing long tube headers and a ory pipe. I'm doing the install this week on my 95 camaro lt1. The headers and pipe are pacesetters and i am going to have to relocate the 02 senors.

Re: LT install pointers?

Spray all of the manifold and y-pipe bolts thoroughly with PB Blaster or equivalent. The drivers side header went in through the bottom, I had to remove two bolts holding the steering shaft together and I pulled that out, along with the plugs and wires. One person on bottom pushing the header in and another on top guiding it around things helps alot, also be careful not to graze and crack the coolant temp sending unit sensor mounted on the head. If it is a big problem, be safe and remove it.

The passenger side is more difficult. I had to remove the plugs, wires, alternator, starter, and valve cover, and oil dipstick. I did not have to loosen the motor mount and jack up the motor, but some people have. I got that header in through the top, once again, two people makes this alot easier and saves damage to the ceramic coatings on the headers.

Once again, spray all of the bolts really well before attempting to take them off. Also, maybe look into a OVC loom kit and OVC spark plug wire kit in order to prevent burned plug wires. That is all I can think of. Hopefully others will post their ideas.

Both of mine went in from the bottom. Save yourself some time and get the car as high into the air as possible from the start. Also make sure you have enough beer. 2000gtp was right on the stuff you need to remove. And the ovc wire kit is the only way to go.

Valium or equivalent sedative.

Car needs to be extremely high off of the ground. Like - park it on top of an SUV if you can. Seriously it has to be WAAAAAY off of the ground.

By an aftermarket K-Member - the LT installs with a K-Member will make you sick to your stomach if you've ever done one with the stock k-member.

It needs to be so high that it's scary.

Re: LT install pointers?

Just finished my Psetter install yesturday. There are a million little things that I could give you tips on. But, Overall plan on this taking longer and being harder, and more frustrating than what you think . I had read for months prior to my install. Reading about it is one thing, honestly there were several times when I had to get away from it for a few hours. It ended up taking me 3 days working off and on. Have a helper! I absolutely could not have done this alone. I found my best help from 2 younger friends (15 yrs old), smaller hands can work wonders around the engine. Expect very sore cut up hands.

Ok i've read all this it kind of makes me just want to let the shop do it and save my self time and frustration. They said they could do it for 300. So did most fo you install yourself to save the money or why did you install it yourself?

I also talked to soem other installs b4 on pacesetters and they said something about having to cut a small pipe or something that ran to the drivers side header. Do you guys knwo what they are talking about?

LOL well..... I actually thought that I would enjoy the experiance ...seriously. I have always enjoyed working on other cars, but this job was not easily digested. If I were not a poor college student, and the shop would guarantee their work against leaks, burn wires and various other potential headaches forever etc.... I would strongly consider letting them handle it. I am not usually easily discouraged, but If I told you that my install was easy and I would be ready to start again tomorrow I would be a Liar.

Re: LT install pointers?

I just recently finished an install of Pacesetter LTs and the ORY. Both of mine went in from the top. I had the font of the car supported with jack stands under the front of subframe connectors (or general area). Removed air box/MAF items. I then removed alternator, both side valve covers, and the stearing knuckle on the drivers side. After removing all the old exhaust parts, I put the divers side in through the top. It takes a little wiggling and some gentle persiuasion to get it in, but it will go. The passenger side of the motor was raised a little. I found with raising the motor a little, the header literally slid right in. Button everything up in reverse and you are all done. Sounds easier than what it is, but expect it to take a good 6 or 7 hours. Maybe longer if you have never done a header install.
